Role Summary
The Senior Manager of Global Supply Chain Capital Equipment plays a pivotal leadership role overseeing the comprehensive procurement, logistics, and supplier partnerships for capital equipment essential to Redwood Materials' fast-growing manufacturing operations. This role is accountable for crafting and executing global sourcing strategies in close collaboration with Engineering, Finance, and Operations teams, ensuring capital projects are delivered punctually, within budget, and meet technical specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the global sourcing approach for capital equipment at all company sites.
- Oversee entire procurement procedures including defining requirements, developing RFQs/RFPs, evaluating suppliers, negotiating contracts, and managing purchase orders.
- Establish and sustain a highly competitive and qualified supplier network to support aggressive capacity expansions.
- Implement cost reduction strategies such as supplier negotiations and design-for-cost initiatives to optimize total cost of ownership.
- Build and supervise a dedicated team coordinating closely with Engineering, Finance, and Project Management on equipment specifications and delivery timelines.
- Lead R&D endeavors to fulfill strategic procurement objectives.
- Manage design concept development and validation by working closely with engineering teams.
- Set engineering workflows and finalize design scopes and budgets.
- Partner with project management to document milestones and deliverables with continuous monitoring to mitigate risks and resolve issues.
- Collaborate internally to develop strategies and operational plans for sourcing consumables and specialty materials linked to products and applications.
- Analyze business, financial, and scheduling data to track project progress and goal attainment.
- Coordinate contractor, supplier, and vendor activities including contract, RFP, and change order management with schedule adherence.
- Execute procurement decisions and oversee supplier-sourced development activities to align with corporate goals.
- Undertake travel as necessary, covered by the company.
- Identify cost-saving and avoidance opportunities by working alongside Manufacturing, Engineering, and Finance teams.
- Design and implement category strategies supported by in-depth analysis and research.
- Develop spend management policies, monitor compliance, and promote best practices.
- Lead key supplier selection, evaluation, relationship management, contract negotiations, and KPI tracking.
- Serve as principal liaison for strategic suppliers, conducting performance reviews and addressing disputes professionally.
- Manage supplier onboarding to diversify supply bases and mitigate single-sourcing risks.
- Coordinate logistics for domestic and international shipments ensuring compliance with import/export regulations.
- Align equipment delivery schedules with project timelines and maintain transparent procurement tracking and reporting.
- Support capital expenditure planning with precise lead time, pricing, and supplier capacity data.
- Drive continuous improvement of sourcing policies, procurement processes, and supplier qualifications specific to capital equipment.
- Ensure procurement aligns with the company's Code of Conduct, ESG commitments, and applicable trade regulations such as ITAR, EAR, and OFAC.
- Promote digital tools and data-driven decision-making within supply chain operations.
- Mentor junior supply chain team members developing organizational capabilities over time.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive supply chain or procurement experience including at least 4 years specializing in capital equipment for manufacturing, energy, or industrial sectors.
- Proven expertise managing complex, high-value capital equipment procurements.
- Deep knowledge of global suppliers for industrial machinery, process equipment, or battery manufacturing.
- Strong negotiation acumen with a record of achieving cost savings and beneficial contract terms.
- Experience in international logistics, knowledge of incoterms, customs, and trade compliance.
- Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle and procurement software tools.
- Excellent project management and organizational capabilities to handle multiple priorities effectively.
- Strong communication skills and confidence in engaging with leadership and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree (e.g., MBA or MS in Engineering or Supply Chain) or equivalent advanced qualifications.
- Experience in battery manufacturing, semiconductor, chemical processing, or energy transition industries.
- Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or similar professional certification.
- Background in high-growth startup or greenfield manufacturing environments.
- Language skills in Mandarin, German, or Japanese considered advantageous due to supplier geographies.
- Knowledge of sustainability sourcing frameworks, conflict minerals compliance, and responsible sourcing standards.
