Job description

Position Overview

Join the RAC as a Superflex Roadside Mechanic and experience a role that values flexibility and versatility. In this position, you will support members by providing essential roadside repairs and assistance across the Portsmouth area and nearby locations such as Havant, Waterlooville, Fareham, Gosport, Chichester, and Emsworth. Starting and ending your shift from home, you will contribute locally while being equipped with an RAC van, fuel card, uniform, essential tools, and diagnostic equipment.

Working Hours and Compensation

  • The role involves working an average of 40 hours per week with a roster provided seven days ahead and confirmed core hours three days prior.
  • Shift times vary from 06:00 to 02:00, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
  • The basic salary is £50,669 annually, with potential earnings up to £57,000 by including bonuses and overtime.

Requirements

  • Either an NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) plus at least two years of experience, or a minimum of five years' experience as a Vehicle Technician or Mechanic.
  • A valid UK driving license with less than six driving penalty points.

The ideal candidate remains composed under pressure, quickly builds rapport with members, and confidently executes repairs ranging from diagnostics to minor fixes like flat tires and batteries. Self-management skills for inventory, vehicle stock, and accurate reporting are essential, along with the ability to independently assess situations and make appropriate decisions to best assist members.
