Job description
About the Organization
Welthungerhilfe is among Germany’s largest independent aid organizations. It operates without political or religious affiliation and works toward a future free from hunger. In collaboration with national and international partners, the organization responds to emergencies and develops long-term approaches that improve living conditions for people facing the greatest vulnerability. Its work focuses on improving food systems, staying locally led while globally connected, and using innovation, evidence, and data-driven decisions to strengthen impact.
The organization’s vision is “Zero Hunger on a Healthy Planet.”
Role Overview
The Global Nutrition Team is looking for a student assistant to support the Sector Strategy, Knowledge & Learning unit in improving the quality of program work across project countries. The role is centered on administrative and analytical support, mainly within the nutrition area, and offers exposure to different departments and functions within an international development cooperation environment.
This position is based in Bonn, Germany. The contract starts as soon as possible for an initial period of 6 months, with a strong possibility of extension. The role is scheduled for 20 hours per week so that it can be combined with ongoing studies. Mobile work within Germany can be arranged with the team, but fully remote work is not available. Compensation is €15 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, review, analyze, and assess databases and datasets related to nutrition and WASH.
- Create and improve dashboards, visual data outputs, and reports that support technical decisions.
- Prepare and present findings independently for presentations, reports, and publications.
- Contribute to the development of data management and monitoring workflows.
- Help plan, organize, and carry out meetings, workshops, and events.
- Update and maintain internal topic pages and support the preparation of articles and presentations.
Candidate Profile
The ideal applicant is currently enrolled at a university or college, preferably in data science, statistics, computer science, nutrition and food sciences, WASH, or a similar field. Interest in analyzing data, visualizing insights, and presenting complex information clearly is important. Prior exposure to datasets and tools such as Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or comparable software is preferred. Familiarity with nutrition, WASH, or international development cooperation is an advantage.
Applicants should be comfortable working in an international and intercultural setting, and should be able to work in a structured, independent manner. Strong IT skills and very good English skills are required.
Working Conditions and Benefits
The role offers the chance to gain a broader understanding of NGO work beyond immediate tasks. The organization provides flexible working hours to help balance employment with studies, a modern and digital work environment, learning and development opportunities, and a diverse team culture.
Additional benefits are available through the organization’s employee benefits program.
