Role overview

Village Hotels is looking for a Starbucks Team Member to keep the coffee service lively, welcoming, and efficient within its hotel coffee shops in Portsmouth. The role suits someone who enjoys a busy environment, stays composed during peak periods, and takes pride in delivering great coffee and friendly service.

This position is much broader than operating espresso equipment. You will be expected to recognise regular guests, prepare drinks accurately, serve food to a high standard, and keep the service area spotless even when the café is busy. The ideal person brings energy, confidence, and a genuine interest in coffee.

What the role involves

  • Preparing high-quality coffee drinks, including favourites such as flat whites, macchiatos, and mochas, with a strong focus on consistency.
  • Serving sandwiches and other food items while maintaining excellent presentation standards.
  • Keeping the coffee shop clean, organised, and visually appealing throughout the day.
  • Providing calm, friendly, and efficient service during busy rushes.
  • Handling the till accurately and helping reduce waste wherever possible.
  • Working closely with the wider hotel team to promote seasonal offerings and support smooth operations.
  • Taking ownership when a drink or service issue needs to be corrected, and resolving it professionally.

  • Strong knowledge of coffee drinks and a genuine enthusiasm for coffee service.
  • The ability to stay composed, move quickly, and work well under pressure.

  • Attention to detail, especially around display standards and food hygiene.
  • Practical commercial awareness, including accurate cash handling and waste control.
