Job description

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform built for businesses. It supports millions of companies, from major enterprises to fast-growing startups, in taking payments, expanding revenue, and unlocking new growth opportunities. The company’s mission is to expand the GDP of the internet, creating an opportunity to shape a part of the global economy at scale.

About the Product Design Team

The Product Design team is responsible for creating and refining the experiences people see and use across Stripe. Designers collaborate with engineering, product, research, strategy, operations, data science, and marketing teams to define products from early direction through launch and ongoing improvement.

About the Risk Team

This role sits within the Risk team, which influences how businesses begin using Stripe, build trust, remain compliant, and scale with confidence. The work touches businesses of every size and supports the safety of both users and the broader Stripe ecosystem.

Risk design is a challenging, high-impact area where the problems are strategic, interconnected, and often complex. The work calls for someone who can simplify critical user moments, lower friction for legitimate businesses, and improve the quality of experiences where trust, clarity, and confidence are essential.

This opportunity is well suited to a designer who enjoys ambiguity, is driven by meaningful impact, and wants to turn complicated systems into intuitive products.

What You’ll Do

In this position, you will create experiences that help businesses start and grow successfully on Stripe. You will partner closely with cross-functional teams to frame problems, guide direction, and deliver polished product experiences.

  • Convert complicated systems, policies, and operational limits into understandable and well-considered product experiences
  • Spot high-impact opportunities that improve consistency across journeys, touchpoints, and product surfaces
  • Work with product managers, engineers, researchers, operations, and strategists to influence product direction and business outcomes
  • Balance long-range strategy with practical near-term solutions
  • Create designs, prototypes, and compelling presentations or demos to communicate ideas effectively
  • Use both qualitative and quantitative evidence to guide decisions and measure results
  • Strengthen the quality bar in a domain where trust and excellence are critical
  • Collaborate with engineering to maintain strong implementation quality and design craftsmanship
  • Help define and evolve shared patterns and systems that support coherence across the Risk organization

Minimum Qualifications

The company is looking for candidates who meet the baseline criteria for the role. Applicants who satisfy these requirements are encouraged to apply.

  • At least 10 years of relevant product design experience at a product-led technology company
  • A portfolio that shows strong craft, systems thinking, end-to-end design capability, and familiarity with AI tools
  • Experience working in complex product environments with many stakeholders, dependencies, and connected workflows
  • Strong product judgment and the ability to shape direction rather than only execute assigned work
  • Proven ability to prototype and design across multiple touchpoints and product surfaces
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills, including the ability to influence through clear rationale and design artifacts

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to think in systems and create solutions that scale across users, workflows, and surfaces
  • Strong product judgment and the ability to influence decisions beyond the visual interface
  • A commitment to quality from concept through implementation
  • Comfort moving between broad strategic thinking and detailed interaction design
  • Energy for ambiguous, strategic problem spaces rather than only well-defined execution
  • Comfort working in fast-moving settings where priorities can shift due to policy, operational, or regulatory needs

In-Office Expectations

For office-assigned employees in most locations, the current expectation is to spend at least 50% of the month in the local office or with users. This may differ based on role, team, and location. In Stripe Delivery Center roles in Mexico City, Bengaluru, and Dublin, employees work from the office full time. Some teams may require additional in-office presence depending on user and workflow needs, and the hiring manager will explain those expectations.

This approach is intended to balance in-person collaboration and learning with flexibility where possible.

Pay and Benefits

The annual salary range for the primary location is £112,800 to £169,200. The range can differ for other locations. For sales positions, the stated range would represent on-target earnings, including both commission or bonus targets and base pay; however, this role is not described as a sales role. The salary band may cover multiple career levels and will be narrowed during interviews based on experience, qualifications, and location. Candidates outside the primary location may ask for the salary range applicable to their location during the interview process.

Compensation and benefits can vary by location and may include equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses, retirement plans, health coverage, and wellness stipends.
