Job description
About the Organisation
On 1 April 2026, NHS National Services Scotland and NHS Education for Scotland came together as a single national body. The aim of this change is to maintain continuity now while building a more connected service for the future. The new organisation, Public Services Delivery Scotland (PSD Scotland), will help support the renewal and long-term sustainability of health and care services across Scotland.
PSD Scotland brings together the expertise of both organisations to help accelerate national programmes that support the NHS in delivering better care today and in the years ahead. The organisation provides education and training for staff, supplies tools and data that improve services, and manages key national functions including procurement, logistics, and blood, tissue, and cell services.
The Role
In this position, you will help deliver whole blood, platelet, and plasma collection sessions efficiently and safely, making sure donors are greeted warmly and treated with care throughout their visit. For whole blood sessions, your duties will include venepuncture and medical selection. In apheresis services, you will assess whether donors are suitable for platelet and plasma donation, including checks on venous access and expected platelet yield.
You will also contribute to the set-up of community donation sessions and support the smooth running of the donor services blood collection team based in Glasgow, with regular travel across the West of Scotland.
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic, adaptable nurse who works well in a team and brings strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational abilities. A genuine interest in training and quality assurance is important for success in this post.
This role requires flexibility, with variable working hours that include Sundays, regular late evenings, weekends, and public holidays. You must also be willing to assist with manual handling tasks such as moving equipment cages or trolleys weighing up to 60kg, done safely with a colleague and without mechanical aids. Full training will be provided across all aspects of the job.
Candidates must hold current NMC registration when applying. You must also live in the UK, remain resident in the UK, and have the right to work in the UK for this role.
Checks and Compliance
A PVG Scheme check will be required for the successful candidate. If you have lived or worked overseas for more than 12 months during the last 5 years, you will also need to provide an overseas criminal record check from the relevant authority.
Benefits
The benefits package includes access to a pension scheme, a broad range of work-life balance policies, occupational health services, learning resource centres, and discounts across leisure, financial, and shopping services.
Inclusion and Recruitment Support
PSD Scotland is committed to being a diverse and inclusive employer where everyone feels welcome. Flexible working is supported through Once for Scotland policies, and the organisation invests in staff health, wellbeing, learning, development, diversity, inclusion, and mental health. A number of staff networks are available for employees to join. As a Disability Confident Leader and equal opportunities employer, PSD Scotland aims to interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria. Reasonable adjustments can be discussed with the Recruitment Team.
Please note that most correspondence is sent by email, so candidates should check their inbox and junk folders regularly.
Further Information
For an informal discussion about the role, contact Gillian.laurens@nhs.scot.
The closing date for completed applications is 30 June 2026.
Equal opportunities apply, and in line with Disability Confident guidance, a fair and proportionate shortlisting approach may be used where exceptionally high application volumes make it impractical to guarantee interviews for all eligible disabled applicants.
