Staff Nurse - Urodynamic Specialist

Role overview

This position is for a staff nurse specializing in urodynamics at SEHA - Abu Dhabi Health Services Co. The role focuses on delivering age-appropriate nursing care in line with the approved nursing scope of practice, while also supporting the organization’s mission, vision, and values. The nurse is expected to follow the Professional Nurses Code of Conduct for Abu Dhabi, promote health, and provide patient education as part of daily care.

Leadership and teamwork

The nurse is expected to show professionalism in interactions with patients and colleagues, apply strong reasoning and problem-solving skills, and contribute to a cooperative care environment. The role involves working closely with an interdisciplinary team based on respect and direct communication, supporting organizational change, taking part in performance reviews, and serving as a mentor and role model for junior nursing staff. The nurse may also supervise practical nurses, midwives, junior staff, and student nurses, act as a preceptor for new staff, and take on in-charge duties when assigned.

Clinical duties

The position requires full involvement in patient assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, and unit scope of service. The nurse must remain accountable for personal practice, use evidence-based care, coordinate individualized treatment from first contact through discharge planning, recognize changes in patient condition, and escalate appropriately. The role also includes patient advocacy, prioritization of care based on ongoing assessment, participation in referrals, support for patients and families, and collaboration with the care team to ensure safe and effective outcomes.

Medication administration is part of the job, including understanding drug actions, contraindications, side effects, and patient response, while following organizational policy and the Ministry of Health and HA-AD narcotic requirements. The nurse must report adverse drug reactions and medication errors, respond to emergencies as required, and work within a cost-conscious framework while using resources responsibly.

Communication and documentation

The staff nurse must protect patient, family, and organizational confidentiality, keep accurate clinical records, and use information systems and electronic medical records appropriately. The role includes coordinating communication among patients, families, physicians, and the interdisciplinary team, participating in meetings, rounds, and case conferences, and providing clear clinical handover to maintain patient safety. All nursing documentation must be complete, systematic, accurate, and aligned with organizational standards. Professional boundaries with patients and team members must always be maintained.

Quality, safety, and risk management

The job includes contributing to quality improvement efforts, including standards development, policy review, implementation of procedures and indicators, and analysis of outcomes and trends. The nurse should help identify operational issues, improve systems, and support safe care delivery. Participation in interdisciplinary performance improvement projects is expected, along with active support for patient safety culture, infection prevention policies, and international and HAAD patient safety goals. The nurse must help keep the workplace safe, identify faulty equipment or furniture, remove unsafe items from service, and report incidents according to policy.

Patient and family education

The nurse is responsible for identifying education needs, planning and delivering teaching, checking understanding, and creating an environment that supports learning. This includes providing patients and families with clear information and resources and taking part in health promotion activities inside the healthcare organization and in the community.

Professional development

The role expects the nurse to support a positive learning environment, coach and teach others when needed, complete mandatory and unit-based competencies, and maintain ongoing professional competence. In coordination with the manager or charge nurse, the staff nurse should identify learning needs, create an annual development plan, apply new theoretical knowledge to improve practice, participate in nursing or interdisciplinary research, maintain a professional portfolio in line with HA-AD policy, and obtain accredited and non-accredited continuing nursing education units as required.

Qualifications

A special certificate is required. The role also requires at least 2 years of post-qualification clinical experience in an appropriate setting. This experience requirement is waived for graduates of UAE nursing colleges or universities after completion of internship.
