Job description

Job Summary

This role is responsible for building and carrying out environmental, health, and safety programs and policies for the plant. It includes overseeing documentation updates so that EHS plans, reports, analyses, requirements, and policies align with applicable laws and standards. The position also involves advising on EHS-related matters and conducting audits to help ensure government requirements and company policies are being followed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the creation and rollout of site-specific policies, procedures, and programs that help the facility meet legal and regulatory obligations.
  • Design and implement effective EHS systems and recordkeeping processes to demonstrate compliance and support company policy adherence.
  • Prepare and submit documentation and reports related to compliance activities.
  • Help maintain environmental, health, and safety records.
  • Build working relationships with state and local agencies, including environmental and safety regulators, wastewater authorities, and fire departments, as well as internal EHS stakeholders.
  • Keep current on federal, state, and local EHS laws and identify all requirements that apply, or may apply, to the site.
  • Create and deliver training programs covering all required parts of the EHS management system.
  • Lead internal and external EHS audits.
  • Oversee investigations into accidents and incidents.
  • Monitor and follow up on corrective and preventive action activities.
  • Work with the EHS team to improve performance against department goals.
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Experience Requirements

  • Ability to analyze practical problems and handle situations with limited standard procedures.
  • Strong understanding of international, national, and local EHS laws and regulations.
  • Capability to assess EHS needs in line with business goals and develop strategies to meet them.
  • Ability to coach engineers and technicians on preparing EHS instructions.
  • Solid financial and analytical capability.
  • Experience using business analytics to determine the most efficient company footprint.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.
  • Good proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office tools such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and email.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related equivalent qualification is preferred.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience required.
  • A combination of education, experience, and/or training may also be considered.
