Overview
Christchurch City Council is seeking an experienced and dedicated Sports Turf Curator to maintain the prestigious playing surfaces at One New Zealand Stadium at Te Kaha, a leading multi-use venue hosting major sports and entertainment events. This role demands expertise in turf care and the ability to operate within a dynamic, flexible environment.
About the Team
The successful candidate will join a skilled and passionate turf management team committed to preserving and enhancing world-class playing surfaces and surrounding turf areas within the stadium precinct and its dedicated turf farm. The team functions through a structured hierarchy to ensure effective planning and maintenance.
Role Responsibilities
- Perform daily upkeep tasks including mowing, line marking, irrigation, fertilisation, pest and disease management, and renovation activities.
- Support event and match day preparations under guidance from senior staff.
- Operate within a flexible seven-day roster system, which includes weekends, public holidays, and outside regular business hours to maintain surface standards before, during, and after scheduled events.
Candidate Requirements
- At least five years' experience in turf preparation and sports field management, including exposure to domestic, national, and international events.
- Relevant trade certification at Level 4 in Sports Turf Management or equivalent practical experience.
- Possesses a valid full driver's license, GrowSafe certification, and Workplace First Aid Certificate.
- Ability and willingness to work a flexible roster covering seven days.
- Strong team player with initiative and commitment to high standards in turf care.

Located centrally in Christchurch, this stadium hosts approximately 200 events per year ranging from international rugby tests to concerts, bolstering the city's status as a cultural and sporting hub.
