Job Overview
The Sports Relations Manager will lead and strategically manage Chesterfield County's community athletic programs, sports partnerships, and related initiatives. The role focuses on delivering outstanding participant experiences, enhancing public quality of life, boosting community involvement, and driving sports tourism with economic benefits.
Key Responsibilities
This position involves oversight of local sports programs and partnerships, managing facility scheduling and logistics, supervising staff, balancing demands of multiple stakeholders including local sports groups and schools, and generating revenue through events and facility use. The manager will also spearhead tournament and special event development that improve resident lifestyle and attract visitors, aligning community sports needs with county objectives and resources.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation, Physical Education, Sports Management or a closely related field.
- Minimum five years of experience in organizing and managing recreation or athletic programs.
- One to three years of supervisory experience is necessary.
- Preferred experience includes partnership management, facility scheduling, and event logistics.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record as per Virginia DMV standards (no six or more demerit points in 24 months or major violation worth six points in 36 months).
- Applicants must provide recent out-of-state driving records if applicable.
- Successful candidates will undergo pre-employment drug tests, FBI background checks, and educational verification.
Work Environment and Expectations
The Sports Relations Manager will be joining a committed, detail-oriented team focused on delivering exceptional public service within the local government sector. The role requires someone able to quickly grasp operational aspects independently, proactively form relationships, and uphold high standards under the guidance given.
Work hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., based onsite in Chesterfield County's Sports, Visitation & Entertainment department.
Compensation and Benefits
The annual salary range for this position is between $72,466 and $97,827. The county offers comprehensive employee benefits detailed in their official benefits summary.
