Division Manager - Communications, Customer Experience, History, and Special Events

Position Overview

The Division Manager will oversee the Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation CHASE Division, which encompasses Communications and Customer Experience, History, and Special Events. This leadership role is central to unifying the community by managing services and events that celebrate heritage and culture while disseminating vital information to the public and county personnel.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all CHASE Division operations including communications, customer engagement, historical programming, and special events.
• Represent the department to the public, schools, community groups, vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders.
• Contribute to formulating and implementing departmental goals, policies, and standards ensuring operational compliance.
• Assist with budgeting for facilities, services, and programs within the division.
• Address inquiries and resolve issues related to divisional activities and projects.
• Supervise, train, and evaluate division staff to foster professional growth and effective performance.
• Utilize critical thinking to make informed decisions, even under pressure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in recreation, history, marketing, or a relevant field.
• At least seven years’ experience in marketing, special events, community engagement, and managing annual campaigns.
• Minimum of three years in supervisory and managerial roles.
• Strong knowledge of communications principles, customer engagement strategies, historical resources, and event coordination.
• Familiarity with strategic planning to organize comprehensive events at various county venues.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record per Virginia state requirements.
• Ability to operate computers and office equipment efficiently and communicate effectively in both written and oral formats.
• Competency in developing partnerships across organizations and government departments.
• Pre-employment drug screening, FBI background check, and degree verification are mandatory.

Work Schedule and Location

Work hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., based at Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation facilities.

Additional Information

• Salary ranges from $88,924 to $120,046 annually.
• Position remains open until filled, with initial review starting May 26, 2026.
