Role Overview
University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust is inviting applications for a Band 6 Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join its Microbiology Department at Chesterfield as part of Derbyshire Pathology, a collaborative effort between Derby and Chesterfield laboratories accredited to ISO 15189.
Department Functions
The Microbiology department undertakes bacteriology, parasitology, serology, molecular testing, and provides an extended working day along with a 24-hour on-call service.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute daily processing of samples and perform clinical microbiology analyses, adhering to standards of timeliness and quality.
- Supervise Band 5 Biomedical Scientists and support personnel within the assigned work area.
- Participate in training programs and educational initiatives to support staff development.
- Contribute fully to on-call and weekend duties as required.
- Ensure understanding and compliance with ISO 15189, health and safety regulations, and quality assurance audits.
