About the role
This is a remote contract opportunity with Mercor, a company that connects highly skilled creative and technical professionals with top AI research teams. The organization is based in San Francisco and is backed by investors including Benchmark, General Catalyst, Peter Thiel, Adam D'Angelo, Larry Summers, and Jack Dorsey.
The position is for a Special Education Expert contributing to AI evaluation work focused on special education workflows and decision-making.
What you will do
- Assess AI-produced content tied to IEP goal drafting, accommodation suggestions, and behavioral intervention planning.
- Build realistic examples drawn from day-to-day special education tasks, such as IEP meeting notes and progress tracking.
- Label, review, and verify data across special education scenarios while keeping work aligned with IDEA and related rules.
- Offer organized feedback on AI performance in areas such as federal and state special education requirements and evidence-based support strategies.
- Work asynchronously with research teams to improve evaluation methods for special education-related AI systems.
Required background
- At least 3 years of hands-on professional experience in special education.
- Experience in special education classroom teaching, IEP coordination, or applied behavior analysis.
- Ability to think critically and convert individualized student support processes into clear evaluation tasks.
- Strong written communication skills and careful attention to detail.
Preferred credentials
- Credentials such as BCBA certification, special education teaching licensure, or school psychologist certification are considered a plus.
Compensation and other details
Pay is offered on a contract basis at $850–$1,000 for each completed task.
There is also a weekly performance bonus for top contributors, and strong performers may later be moved to an hourly compensation structure.
