Overview
The Minister of State Robert Troy is looking to appoint a highly experienced Special Advisor with senior expertise in communications and public policy. This critical position requires sharp political insight, excellent media relations capabilities, and the agility to work in a fast-paced government environment. The advisor will assist the Minister in shaping media narratives at both local and national levels, contribute to policy development, and liaise with the financial services and credit union sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Offer strategic media guidance and assist with media execution aligned with Department objectives and the Government Programme.
- Establish and sustain relationships with senior officials, industry bodies, interest groups, government colleagues, and other stakeholders.
- Support the creation of communications materials including speeches, press releases, responses to media queries, and digital content.
- Assist in crafting legislation and policy plans consistent with government goals and sector requirements.
- Prepare high-quality briefings, policy notes, and talking points for use in the Dail, Seanad, and with industry and political stakeholders.
- Provide prompt responses to emerging issues as needed.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Extensive background in media relations, communications, or public policy.
- Strong knowledge of the Irish and international media landscapes.
- Familiarity with the financial services industry and relevant Irish and European legislation is beneficial but not mandatory.
- Demonstrated ability to manage relationships across public and private sectors.
- Deep understanding of public policy and the Irish political system.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, able to simplify complex topics.
- Strategic thinker able to address intricate political and policy challenges.
- Competence in developing and supporting effective social media strategies.
Desirable Experience
- Previous roles within media, government, or in-house communications settings.
- Knowledge of Ireland’s financial services industry, including areas such as funds, asset management, insurance, fintech, and banking.
- Ability to perform well under pressure.
