Job description

About the Role

Stage 3 Separation provides solids control systems for mud applications that help customers manage solids efficiently, lower operating costs, and support limited or zero-discharge solutions when needed. The company also relies on field technicians, supervisors, engineers, and scientists to deliver practical recommendations that improve job performance and cost efficiency.

The organization’s work is guided by a strong focus on safety, collaboration, innovation in technology, and operational integrity.

What You’ll Do

Reporting to the Field Leader(s) and working with general direction, you will support mechanical processes tied to improved drilling operations and recycled drilling fluid in closed-loop and related mud systems. Training will be provided on Stage 3’s specialized equipment.

This position follows a 12-hour shift model on a 14-days-on/7-days-off rotation, with project-based assignments at remote sites across Canada. It is a safety-sensitive role.

The company is hiring through its Calgary office, while field work may take place anywhere across Canada.

Core Responsibilities

  • Work a 14-on/7-off rotation, with schedules that may change depending on the project site.
  • Complete 12-hour shifts, including overtime when required.
  • Work swing shifts from 12:00 PM to 12:00 AM or 12:00 AM to 12:00 PM, while shadowing an experienced technician and field leader during training.
  • Travel within Canada to remote locations as needed.
  • Be assigned to one project or several projects, depending on operational requirements.
  • Learn how to set up and dismantle equipment in the field.
  • Operate and become familiar with solids control systems such as shaker tanks, centrifuges, drying units, and pumps.
  • Build foundational knowledge of environmental services and electrical concepts.
  • Understand drilling fluid characteristics such as fluid weight, funnel viscosity, retort analysis, and related testing.
  • Support solids control services including air drilling, barite recovery, dewatering, floc water, fluid transfers, low-gravity solids targeting, and cuttings drying/invert recovery.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and basic electrical maintenance on equipment.
  • Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently under supervision.
  • Keep the work area clean and organized using pressure-washing equipment.
  • Participate in daily safety meetings.
  • Complete daily PJRA/JSA documents, inspection reports, observation reports, and checklists as required.
  • Wear the required PPE at all times on site.
  • Follow all safety procedures and site protocols.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, since the role may evolve based on operational needs.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work well in a team while also handling tasks independently.
  • Mechanical aptitude with an understanding of electronics.
  • Comfort using basic data-entry systems, including the company portal.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and good time management.
  • Ability to build professional relationships on a rig site.
  • Customer-focused approach with diplomacy and tact.
  • Capability to learn and operate heavy equipment such as an excavator, forklift, or wheel loader, with certification earned as required.
  • Willingness to obtain safety certifications including H2S, WHMIS, LOTO, and CPR/First Aid.
  • Ability to work outdoors in cold, wet, and hot conditions.
  • Willingness to stay away from home for 14 days or more during rotations.
  • Ability to keep shared accommodations clean and organized.
  • Strong English reading, writing, and comprehension skills.
  • Commitment to completing performance evaluations and competency testing to progress to Field Level 1.

  • Valid provincial driver’s license, insurance, and a clean driving record with low to zero demerits.
  • Valid Class 5 license in AB/BC/SK, Class G in Ontario, or an equivalent license in another province or territory.
  • Because the position is safety-sensitive, pre-employment drug and alcohol screening may be required.

Experience Requirements

  • 1 or more years of dewatering or water-based mud/transfer experience is required.
  • Experience with shaker tanks, centrifuges, drying equipment, and pumps is preferred.
