Role Overview

Backend engineering at Mirage encompasses broad responsibilities across product, platform, and machine learning. You will develop and maintain the backend services, APIs, data pipelines, and infrastructure that support all product components.

The position involves full ownership of critical backend systems, collaborating closely with product, design, client, and AI teams to transform visionary ideas into scalable and dependable production systems. This role is fitting for engineers who enjoy solving complex challenges and being connected to product and user results.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and manage backend systems end-to-end, including services, APIs, data workflows, and infrastructure that enable product functionality.
• Address intricate technical problems involving distributed system design, scalability, concurrency, and performance optimization.
• Deploy, serve, and scale sophisticated generative AI models in production, combining internal research with external technologies to create novel product features.
• Continuously monitor, experiment, and refine systems in production to enhance performance and quality.
• Design and maintain core platform infrastructure, integrating with third-party services, storage solutions, security frameworks, and internal APIs.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of professional experience in software engineering.
• Proven success delivering impactful systems or products in live environments.
• Strong problem-solving capabilities and eagerness to learn.
• Excellent engineering judgment with practical and efficient time-management skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced setting and to scope and complete projects independently.

Preferred Attributes

• Experience working extensively with large language models (LLMs) and generative media technologies with awareness of industry trends.
• Team-oriented attitude and willingness to contribute to collective success.
• Background as a startup founder or early-stage engineer is advantageous.

Additional Information

All full-time roles require working onsite at our New York City headquarters in Union Square.

Compensation for this role ranges from $175,000 to $275,000 annually.
