BAM UK & Ireland is hiring a Social Sustainability Manager for its Carlow, County Carlow base. The role sits within a business focused on delivering infrastructure and building communities across some of Ireland’s most attractive locations.
The position offers the chance to contribute to major construction and civil engineering projects while helping shape and report on social sustainability outcomes across projects and the wider Ireland region.

Key purpose of the role
You will act as a central lead for social sustainability delivery, ensuring project teams meet relevant requirements and KPIs while coordinating with internal colleagues, clients, and wider stakeholders. The role also involves helping strengthen BAM’s social value approach across bids, projects, and frameworks.
Responsibilities
- Support project teams in delivering and tracking social sustainability requirements and performance measures for internal and external stakeholders.
- Serve as the main contact for stakeholders across assigned projects and the wider Ireland region.
- Manage data and compile reporting through BAM’s Social Sustainability Reporting Tool, BAMSI, and client-specific reporting systems.
- Create and maintain social sustainability documentation and materials.
- Plan and coordinate events linked to the role.
- Design and deliver engagement activity such as job fairs, STEM events, school outreach, charity work, and support for social enterprises.
- Build and sustain partnerships that help deliver the social sustainability strategy.
- Provide practical advice and guidance on social sustainability matters.
- Support the audit process for the Considerate Constructors Scheme.
- Develop and deliver relevant training sessions and toolbox talks.
- Work with subcontractors to gather social sustainability information.
- Create a library of case studies and supporting evidence for bids, submissions, and quality responses.
- Support tender and work-winning teams with specialist social sustainability expertise.
- Oversee social sustainability activity across the full project or framework lifecycle.
- Provide subject-matter expertise to operational, preconstruction, commercial, supply chain, client, and stakeholder groups.
Requirements
- At least 6 years’ experience in social sustainability, social value, social impact, or community development roles in either private or public sector settings.
- A degree-level qualification, or equivalent, in a relevant subject is preferred.
- Background in a similar role with experience building and delivering social value plans and reporting on performance.
- Understanding of ED&I policy and practice, with a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion in social value and stakeholder work.
- Knowledge of social value frameworks such as Themes, Outcomes & Measures (TOMs), or similar impact tools.
- Ability to apply tools and methods that assess social value outputs, impact, and outcomes.
- Proven experience producing strong tender responses and contributing to bid submissions.
- Capability to work with supply chain partners to meet project-level social sustainability targets.
- Experience with procurement processes.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Willingness to travel regularly across the region and the UK & Ireland as needed.
- A full clean Irish driving licence is ideal.
- ED&I accreditation experience or a related qualification is desirable.
- People management experience is desirable.
- Willingness to complete Garda Vetting.
