About the Role
Status Coup News is a leading independent news organization dedicated to reporting directly from the field across the United States, focusing on stories often overlooked or hidden by mainstream corporate media. We are seeking a passionate social media video producer/editor to join our team full-time, working remotely. Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the newsroom on video coverage planning.
- Edit video requests from editorial staff covering breaking news, exclusive interviews, and daily news content.
- Create multiple video versions tailored for both short-form and long-form social media platforms according to reporting needs.
- Assist in managing social media communities by actively engaging with viewer comments across platforms.
- Design graphics, thumbnails, and other supplementary social media materials promptly.
- Partner with audience development and social media teams to enhance video content for Status Coup’s social media channels.
- Work closely with social media stakeholders in managing online communities.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience as a video editor specializing in engaging social news video content.
- Exceptional skills in captivating social media viewers within the first 3-5 seconds and maintaining their attention throughout the video.
- Strong news judgment and instinct to identify impactful moments and sound bites from both on-the-ground reporting and in-studio recordings.
- Ability to produce a high volume of quality social posts and videos without compromising standards.
- A deep passion for on-the-ground, justice-oriented journalism aligned with Status Coup’s mission.
- Proficiency in popular social media platforms, trends, best practices, and analytics.
- Competence in engaging audiences through comments and other non-video social media posts, including photo posts and carousels, reflecting the brand’s distinctive voice.
- Experience working with streaming platforms and live clipping for editing purposes.

This role may require availability during breaking news events including nights and weekends due to Status Coup’s commitment to real-time, on-the-ground reporting.
