Job description
About the role
Okta is hiring a Social Media Designer to shape the visual identity of its social presence across platforms such as LinkedIn and YouTube. This is the company’s first role focused entirely on social creative, so you will help establish the look, feel, and quality bar for all future work in the channel. You will work closely with the Social team on a day-to-day basis, creating fast-moving, feed-ready content that turns identity and security topics into posts people notice, engage with, and share.
The audience is highly technical, senior, and selective, so the work needs to feel clear, sharp, and relevant without losing the trust and credibility of a security brand. A major theme of the role is bringing the “Okta Secures AI” narrative to life in a way that makes complex ideas easy to understand and difficult to ignore. The right person will be both a designer and a cultural observer, with the judgment to stretch the brand thoughtfully and the speed to move from concept to finished asset quickly.
What you will do
- Own creative development for Okta’s organic social channels, taking projects from idea through final delivery in static, carousel, and feed-first formats.
- Create and refine repeatable design systems so marketing and business priorities can be turned into channel-specific content quickly.
- Turn the “Okta Secures AI” message into visual concepts that attract attention, drive interaction, and encourage sharing.
- Work cultural cues into the creative in a way that still feels appropriate for a trusted security brand.
- Design assets for the social advocacy program so employees and partners can easily share Okta content through their own networks.
- Collaborate with the video team to strengthen YouTube performance through thumbnail design, playlist visuals, and other supporting graphics.
- Develop the brand expression for social while safeguarding core brand assets and consistency.
- Experiment with new ideas and formats, review performance, and turn successful approaches into repeatable practices.
- Show creative direction to stakeholders and provide guidance to other designers contributing to social work.
- Track platform updates and feed trends, then bring useful opportunities back to the team.
What experience you have
- A strong portfolio showing social-first creative that captures attention, drives engagement, and remains on-brand.
- Senior-level experience designing for social platforms, ideally in-house or within a social-native environment, with evidence of independent ownership.
- Deep knowledge of feed-native design principles and platform best practices, including YouTube.
- Strong ability to make technical or abstract topics feel interesting and shareable.
- Good cultural intuition and the judgment to know how far to push an idea.
- Advanced proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and Figma.
- A testing mindset with comfort analyzing engagement data and using insights to improve creative output.
- The ability to move quickly, iterate often, and stay effective in a fast-paced environment where the next post is always due soon.
- Motion and video design experience is a plus.
- Background in B2B or technology is also a plus.
Why this role is exciting
- You will help define how a major identity and AI company shows up across social feeds.
- You will be embedded with a team that moves quickly and ships consistently.
- You will set the creative standard for social and create work that gets seen, shared, and discussed.
- You will help build the social creative workflow and infrastructure from the ground up rather than simply inheriting an existing system.
Why Okta is excited about you
- You think first about the audience and then the brand, and you know how to make both succeed.
- You bring taste, speed, and a clear point of view about what makes content work.
- You can look at a complex topic and immediately start shaping the version people will actually stop for and pass along.
Compensation and benefits
The role includes a base salary range that varies by location. For candidates in the San Francisco Bay Area, the annual base pay is between USD 143,000 and USD 196,900. For candidates in California outside the Bay Area, Colorado, Illinois, New York, and Washington, the annual base pay is between USD 128,000 and USD 176,000. For candidates in Canada, the annual salary range is CAD 114,000 to CAD 157,300.
Actual pay depends on skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. In addition to base pay, Okta may offer equity where applicable, along with bonus opportunities and benefits such as health, dental, and vision coverage, retirement savings support, flexible spending accounts, telemedicine, healthcare spending support, and paid leave including PTO and parental leave, according to the applicable regional plan.
Okta experience
- Support for employee well-being.
- Commitment to social impact.
- Focus on talent development and building connection and community.
Okta emphasizes connection across its global workforce of more than 20 offices. New hires begin with an in-person onboarding experience designed to speed up contribution and build early connection to the mission and team.
