Job description

About the company and opportunity

Sole Motive is a family-run Australian business established in 1980 with a clear purpose: motivating and supporting people through running. The business operates specialty retail stores, delivers events for tens of thousands of runners each year, and contributes to charitable fundraising that has reached millions of dollars for hundreds of charities.

This part-time opportunity is for a Social Media & Content Manager, working approximately 25 to 30 hours per week. The role suits someone who naturally creates eye-catching content, understands how to hold attention on social platforms, and has a genuine connection to running. It is a practical, creative position with strategic responsibility, covering the online presence of Sole Motive, Runner's World, Run Melbourne, and Canberra Marathon. You will develop the Reels, stories, and posts that strengthen the brand and deepen community engagement, while partnering with the Marketing Manager to improve how the brand is represented digitally.

What you will do

  • Produce engaging content across formats, including Reels, carousels, stories, and Canva-based graphics, using both phone and on-camera execution as needed.
  • Manage the content calendar for all channels, balancing long-term planning with fast responses to important moments.
  • Shape content around brand messaging and contribute to a stronger overall brand presence online.
  • Capture content in the field at events, run clubs, stores, and with runners in real situations.
  • Plan and coordinate photoshoots and event photography, from preparing briefs to arranging photographers and models.
  • Develop and maintain authentic connections with runners, creators, and ambassadors to grow the community.
  • Assess published content and continuously improve its quality and impact.
  • Create content tailored for paid advertising in collaboration with the digital ads contractor.
  • Track content performance and use insights to help expand audience reach and engagement.

What kind of person will succeed

  • You are a confident content creator who instinctively produces strong Reels and visually compelling social content.
  • You can take a piece of content from concept through shooting, editing, and design without needing close supervision.
  • You think beyond aesthetics and understand how content supports brand goals and wider strategy.
  • You have a sharp sense for visual storytelling and are comfortable appearing on camera, though that is not mandatory.
  • You understand Instagram well and stay aware of how social platforms are evolving.
  • You are organised with content planning and can respond quickly when timely opportunities arise.
  • You have at least 2 years of experience in a hands-on content or social media role.
  • You are genuinely interested in running, health, and fitness and feel connected to the audience the brand serves.

Why this role stands out

This position gives you access to major running events in Australia, as well as run clubs and real community moments, allowing you to tell stories that encourage people to get moving. You will have real ownership over content and influence how a long-established running brand presents itself online, supported by a collaborative marketing team. The work also contributes to a larger purpose by helping grow the community and supporting major annual charity fundraising efforts.

Application details
