Job description

About the role

The Narrative Refinery is a boutique social media strategy and content production agency that works with small, design-led brands. For a defined period running from late July into early August, the agency owner will be on location at a major international sporting event and needs an experienced social-first editor to take charge of content editing for four clients during that time.

This engagement begins as a part-time, project-based contract with a fixed budget and clearly defined scope. There is also potential for the right person to move into a continuing part-time arrangement as the agency owner’s preferred editor after this initial phase.

Before the editing window starts, an onboarding call will be held in early July to review the brands, briefs, file structure, and exact deliverables so everything is set up in advance of the owner traveling.

Shot lists and brand assets will be provided before work begins. Photographers will supply the raw files, and your responsibility will be to transform that raw photo and video material into polished, brand-consistent, ready-to-publish content, including graphics and short-form video, prepared for captioning and scheduling.

This role is best suited to someone who works quickly, takes initiative, and is comfortable matching a brand’s style without needing step-by-step oversight.

What you will be doing

  • Turning raw images and video into finished social content suitable for Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook
  • Creating both still graphics and carousel layouts, along with short-form video such as Reels, TikToks, and Stories
  • Adapting each client’s existing visual identity, guidelines, and content style by reviewing previous posts and brand documents
  • Working from provided shot lists and content briefs while keeping pace with fast turnaround requirements across several brands
  • Delivering final files in an organized, clearly labeled format that is ready for captioning and scheduling
  • Raising questions early and managing your own workflow across a consistent editing workload

About the clients and scope

You will be working across four boutique, design-conscious small businesses with distinct voices, audiences, and visual identities. The work covers beauty, lifestyle, retail, and local services, ranging from polished and premium to warm and community-oriented. Because the brands vary significantly, flexibility and range are more important than sticking to one personal style.

This is a concentrated, time-limited project rather than a full month of content production. During the active window, you will handle a defined batch of content across all four clients, including feed posts, Stories, and short-form video for Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. The exact workload and priorities will be agreed during onboarding so expectations are clear and realistic before the project starts.

Some of the work may be built from templates to keep production efficient and consistent. You will receive clear briefs with copy direction, inspiration, and guidance on each brand’s look and feel, then pair those directions with the photo and video assets delivered after each shoot.

What success looks like

  • Raw photography and video are converted into polished, on-brand deliverables within the agreed timeframe
  • Each client’s output feels native to the brand rather than generic or mismatched
  • The editing process can be trusted and handed off smoothly so the agency owner can stay focused while on site
  • Final files are neatly organized, accurately named, and ready for captioning and scheduling without additional cleanup

How the collaboration will work

  • Brand kits, previous content, shot lists, and briefs will be shared with you in advance
  • All deliverables will be exchanged through shared drives with a defined folder and naming system
  • The agency owner will remain available for questions, but will be working in the field and in a different time zone, so strong judgment and proactive communication are important
  • Turnaround times will be quick but clearly defined, so you will always know what needs to be completed and when

Logistics

  • Work location: fully remote
  • Engagement structure: part-time, project-based, with a defined budget and the possibility of extending into an ongoing part-time role
  • Onboarding: an early July call to align on brand assets, briefs, and scope before the project window begins
  • Timeline: concentrated work from approximately July 18 to August 8, 2026
  • Weekly time commitment: about 15 to 20 hours per week
  • Tools in use: Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, and Canva are all actively used, though you may work in whichever tools best help you meet the brief

Application note

A portfolio or work samples are required to be considered. Applications that include relevant, social-first examples showing the kind of editing this role requires will be given priority.

What will help you stand out

  • A portfolio that demonstrates versatility across several brand aesthetics rather than one repeated visual formula
  • Examples of short-form video edited from raw footage, not only prebuilt motion templates
  • Proof that you can follow an existing brand style and enhance it instead of imposing your own
