Job description
About the role
The Narrative Refinery is a boutique social media strategy and content production agency that works with a select group of small, design-forward brands. For a concentrated period from around July 18 to August 8, the agency owner will be away at a major international sporting event and needs an experienced designer to take charge of content editing for four clients during that time.
This position is centered on graphic design. The ideal person is a designer by background who can also handle short-form video edits when required. The main workload is static and carousel content, with Reels, TikToks, and Stories forming an important part of the deliverables as well.
The role begins as a part-time, project-based contract with a clear budget and defined scope. There is also room for this to continue into a recurring part-time position for the right candidate, potentially becoming the agency owner's preferred editor after the initial project window.
Before the work period starts, there will be an onboarding call in early July to review the brands, briefs, file organization, and exact scope so everything is ready before the agency owner travels.
Brand materials and shot lists will be shared in advance. Photographers will supply the raw photos and footage, and your responsibility will be to transform those assets into polished, on-brand content that is ready for captions and scheduling.
Who we are looking for
- A designer with strong command of typography, layout, visual hierarchy, and color, demonstrated through polished static posts and carousel work.
- Someone with direct experience creating social-first content, not only general graphic design.
- A person who can confidently edit short-form video from raw footage into a clean, brand-appropriate Reel, TikTok, or Story.
- A self-starter who can take direction at a high level and move independently without needing step-by-step supervision.
- Someone who can review a brand's previous content and supporting documents, then create new assets that fit naturally within that existing style.
- A flexible designer who can move between multiple brands and very different visual identities without losing quality.
- A reliable communicator who can meet deadlines and stay aligned even when the agency owner is working in another time zone and mostly in the field.
What the work involves
- Creating final, ready-to-publish static and carousel graphics for Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook that match each client's brand identity.
- Turning raw photo and video footage into short-form content such as Reels, TikToks, and Stories at a professional, on-brand level.
- Studying each client's branding, guidelines, and existing content so the new work feels consistent with what already exists.
- Working from supplied shot lists and content briefs, with quick turnaround times across several brands.
- Submitting final files in a tidy, clearly labeled format so they are ready for captions and scheduling.
- Identifying issues early and managing your own workload across a steady flow of editing tasks.
Clients and scope
You will be producing content for four boutique, design-conscious small businesses with distinct audiences, tones, and visual identities. The work spans beauty, lifestyle, retail, and local services, and the style range runs from polished and premium to warm and community-driven. Because you may switch between very different looks in the same week, adaptability matters more than having one signature aesthetic.
This is a focused engagement rather than a full month of content creation. During the project window, you will handle a defined batch of feed posts, Stories, and short-form video for Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. The exact content volume and priorities will be agreed during onboarding so the workload remains clear and realistic.
Much of the work can be built from templates to help keep output consistent and efficient. You will receive clear direction on copy, inspiration, and each brand's visual style, and your job will be to match those instructions with the correct images and footage provided after each shoot.
Why this role stands out
This is not anonymous overflow work. You will be the design and editing support behind a well-organized agency with clear systems, structured briefs, and clients who care about the quality of their content. Instead of vague requests and unclear deliverables, you will receive shot lists, brand documents, and direction before work begins.
For a designer seeking steady, interesting social-first work across a variety of brands, with a genuine possibility of an ongoing role, this project offers a strong starting point.
What success looks like
- Raw assets are turned into finished, brand-appropriate content within the agreed project window.
- Each client's output feels native to that brand rather than generic or off-style.
- The agency owner can confidently hand off editing and stay focused on-site without needing constant follow-up.
- Final files are cleanly organized, properly named, and ready for scheduling and captioning with no extra rework.
How we will work together
- You will receive brand kits, previous content, shot lists, and briefs before the project begins.
- Files will be shared through organized drives with a clear folder structure and naming system.
- The agency owner will be available for questions, though mostly working in the field and across time zones, so proactive communication and sound judgment are important.
- Turnaround times will be quick but clearly defined, so expectations are always visible in advance.
Logistics
- Location: fully remote.
- Engagement type: part-time, project-based contract with a defined budget and possible extension into an ongoing part-time role.
- Onboarding: an early July call to align on brands, briefs, and scope before the project window starts.
- Project period: approximately July 18 to August 8, 2026.
- Weekly commitment: around 15 to 20 hours per week.
- Tools in use: Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, and Canva.
What will help you stand out
- A portfolio that opens with strong graphic design and shows versatility across different brand aesthetics rather than the same style repeated everywhere.
- Static and carousel examples that stand alone as thoughtful, polished design work.
- Short-form video samples edited from raw footage that demonstrate you can handle the video side confidently when needed.
- Proof that you can work within an existing brand system instead of imposing your own visual style.
Additional information
A portfolio or work samples are required to be considered. Applications are being prioritized when they show strong graphic design across multiple brands, especially social-first examples that reflect the kind of editing this role requires. The emphasis is on design work at the top of your application.
