Job description
Role Overview
The Social Community Manager serves as the daily owner of the organization’s presence on Reddit and related organic social platforms. This person will actively participate in communities, spot the right conversations, respond in an authentic voice, and oversee the organization’s owned Reddit spaces. The role is highly execution-focused and best suited to someone who is immersed in Reddit culture, understands how communities operate, and can protect brand standards while still respecting community expectations.
Community Management and Engagement
- Check and manage the organization’s Reddit communities every day, keeping subreddit health, rule panels, pinned content, and reputation in good shape.
- Handle reactive engagement by locating, prioritizing, and responding to threads that mention the organization, competitor offerings, or key topic areas.
- Support ambassador posting in real time by identifying active threads, assigning them to the most suitable subject matter expert or ambassador, and reviewing draft replies.
- Move hostile, risky, or sensitive discussions into the escalation process quickly and with confidence.
- Help maintain account health across owned Reddit properties by tracking karma, posting rhythm, engagement frequency, and overall standing in the community.
Listening and Reporting
- Perform daily social listening across 10–15 priority subreddits using Sprinklr, and keep dashboards and alerts properly configured.
- Create weekly reports for leadership covering trending themes, sentiment patterns, competitor activity, and opportunities for AEO citations.
- Monitor engagement at the post level, including upvotes, comments, reach, and awards, then share performance insights with the Content Strategist.
- Spot new subreddit opportunities as the program expands and watch for signals that indicate community health changes.
Ambassador Coordination
- Act as the live operational contact for active ambassadors by sharing threads, confirming availability, and reviewing posts within the workflow.
- Escalate unclear threads, compliance questions, or ambassador-related issues to the Ambassador Program Manager before they become larger problems.
- Track each ambassador’s posting volume and send weekly participation updates to the Program Manager.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work with the Social Content Strategist each week to share what is connecting with communities and which prompt styles are underperforming.
- Coordinate with the Social Ambassador Program Manager on ambassador availability, onboarding timing, and overall program health.
- Partner with Legal and Marketing to ensure disclosure compliance and immediately flag any language that deviates from approved messaging.
Role Boundaries
This position is not responsible for setting the overall content strategy or maintaining the prompt library, which belongs to the Content Strategist. It also does not handle the ambassador lifecycle such as onboarding, training, or retention, which is owned by the Ambassador Program Manager. Agency partnerships and AEO audit reporting are also outside the scope of this role.
Requirements
- 3 to 5 years of experience in social media community management with a strong emphasis on hands-on execution.
- Active and fluent Reddit usage, either personally or professionally, with a solid grasp of karma, subreddit culture, and what kinds of posts succeed or fail.
- Direct experience using Sprinklr for listening, publishing, and reporting.
- Excellent written communication skills and the ability to write in a natural, non-promotional tone that avoids sounding like a press release.
- Proven ability to handle escalations calmly and efficiently.
- Preferred background in higher education, healthcare, or other regulated sectors where organizational messaging is closely reviewed.
- Helpful familiarity with the AEO and AI-generated content environment, including the way Reddit discussions influence AI answers.
- Experience working with volunteer contributors or ambassador-style networks is preferred.
