As a Sipo, you help safeguard railway work areas by keeping an attentive watch on train movements, warning crews in time, and supporting compliant safety procedures along the track.
Key duties
You work from the trackside rather than being part of the work execution itself. Your focus is on observing the line, identifying approaching train traffic, and ensuring workers move out of danger zones before a train passes. You also stay in close contact with other safety personnel and relevant rail operations teams to help coordinate the protection measures smoothly.
The role calls for constant concentration, quick reactions, and a strong sense of responsibility, because your attention directly contributes to the safety of the people working near the tracks. Physical work is not part of this assignment; your main task is monitoring, alerting, and coordinating.
Training and onboarding
A dedicated qualification is required for this role. You will be prepared through a structured training programme lasting 7 days, designed to teach the safety rules, signaling procedures, and practical knowledge needed for work as a Sicherungsposten.
