Job description
Role Overview
Leipzig/Halle Airport is looking for a full-time, permanent Shift Unit Leader for its company fire brigade in Leipzig, Saxony. The airport serves millions of passengers each year and handles a very large volume of air cargo, making it one of Europe’s major freight hubs. You would join a large airport group with more than 1,100 employees across its sites and contribute to the safety and operational readiness of the fire service.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate the shift unit on a day-to-day basis.
- Form and lead the mobile fire response command and assist with technical incident command.
- Direct all deployed personnel and equipment during operational incidents.
- Support resource management in staffing and duty allocation.
- Organize, carry out, and review emergency drills.
- Plan, run, and monitor training and continuing education in coordination with the training department.
- Ensure the company fire brigade remains continuously ready for duty and complies with legal requirements.
- Inspect, document, and evaluate adherence to fire safety regulations and develop improvement suggestions for the responsible leadership team.
- Handle people management, including duty rosters, deployment planning, implementation of the shift framework plan, employee appraisals, qualification development, and staff motivation.
- Contribute in an advisory and technical capacity to internal budget planning and budget control.
Candidate Profile
- Completed qualification for the senior firefighting service.
- University or university of applied sciences degree, plus completed training as a platoon leader or an equivalent qualification.
- Successfully completed the fire inspector training course.
- At least five years of professional experience in firefighting.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide and coordinate emergency teams.
- Basic commercial awareness.
- Physical and mental fitness in line with fire service regulations, including valid G 26/3 certification.
- High resilience and suitability for shift work.
- Strong communication skills, teamwork, and assertiveness.
- Valid CE driving licence.
