Role overview
In this shift supervisor position, you’ll support the store manager in running day-to-day store operations during assigned shifts. As the shift lead, you’ll assign tasks, guide the team, and help create the Starbucks experience through attentive service, quality drinks and food, and a clean, welcoming store. The role also calls for living the company’s core principles while helping maintain a workplace where people enjoy showing up and doing their best.
Key responsibilities
- Represent the company’s values, mission, honesty, and integrity in day-to-day work.
- Stay composed and steady during busy periods or unexpected situations so the store keeps operating to standard.
- Watch customer and store conditions closely and respond to changing needs.
- Share relevant shift information with the manager so the team can maintain a strong “third place” experience.
- Support onboarding and training of new partners through positive reinforcement and respectful coaching.
- Give the store manager useful feedback on partner performance during the shift.
- Help build a supportive team culture by noticing changes in morale or performance and passing those observations along.
- Provide timely, specific, and respectful coaching to improve partner performance and overall shift execution.
- Deliver warm, customer-first service and build genuine customer connections.
- Identify customer needs and act on them proactively.
- Build strong working relationships with shift team members by understanding individual motivations and concerns.
- Run store operations during scheduled shifts and organize opening and closing tasks as needed.
- Follow operating procedures for cash handling, safety, and security to protect partners and the store.
- Apply cash management and register policies correctly across the shift team.
- Check in with baristas during the shift to help ensure excellent customer service.
- Maintain dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Prepare beverages, whole-bean coffee, and food items consistently according to recipe and presentation standards.
- Follow health, safety, and sanitation requirements for all products.
- Recognize team achievements and partner contributions using available tools and creative recognition methods with the store manager.
- Use operational systems and tools to help the shift achieve strong results.
Experience and qualifications
The role requires customer service experience in a retail or restaurant setting. You should be able to guide the work of others, learn quickly, communicate clearly, work well with people, understand the retail environment, and contribute effectively as part of a team.
