About the Role

Join a company where dedication is truly valued! As a Shift Miller at a grain or flour production plant, you will manage the entire milling process during your shift to ensure production outputs meet strict quality and customer requirements. This pivotal role combines technical knowledge, quality oversight, machinery maintenance, and personnel leadership.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage assets by achieving production targets, ensuring machinery availability, minimizing breakdown-related downtime, and controlling milling and maintenance expenses.
  • Maintain inventory levels for finished products, consumables, vitamins, and additives, while eliminating manufacturing losses.
  • Drive financial performance through continuous improvement initiatives, zero write-offs, and reaching efficiency goals.
  • Adhere strictly to company policies and procedures to enhance corporate governance and long-term stakeholder value.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, risk, and environmental regulations, consistently meeting audit benchmarks.
  • Implement Good Manufacturing Practices and food safety standards, comply with legislative requirements, maintain consistent product quality, and reduce customer complaints.
  • Lead and train staff to improve plant availability and production efficiency, reduce deviations, and maintain high team morale.
  • Operate mills at design capacity, maintaining manufacturing efficiencies and limiting milling downtime to 0.5% of total hours.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Certified Wheat and/or Maize Miller (preferably both), with SAGMA or GMF trade test qualifications.
  • Knowledge of fumigation practices to manage grain insect infestations.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities with a proactive approach to deliver long-term results.
  • Strong personal effectiveness characterized by assertiveness, diplomacy, creativity, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with reliable time management.
  • Attention to detail, sound analytical and decision-making skills, effective verbal and written communication in English, and resilience under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, dedication to continuous learning, and effective communication capabilities.
  • Approximately 5 years of relevant experience in the wheat milling industry.
  • Willingness to work shifts including weekends and public holidays.
