About Platform Engineering

Platform Engineering is the largest community for platform engineers globally, hosting PlatformCon—the leading conference with over 50,000 attendees including engineers, tech leaders, and decision-makers annually. They provide research, educational programs, and create content reaching hundreds of thousands worldwide, functioning as a specialized media house for technical audiences.

Role Overview

We seek an experienced Senior Video Producer to establish and lead our video production efforts from inception. Currently reliant on freelancers, this role will define all processes including shooting, editing, publishing, and strategizing growth for our YouTube presence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the entire video production cycle: ideation, shoot setup, editing, post-production, publishing, and analyzing performance outcomes.
  • Set and uphold standards for remote video production equipment and environments such as cameras, lenses, microphones, lighting, and backgrounds to ensure professional quality from home offices.
  • Guide and coach on-camera talent, including founders, providing feedback on framing, audio, pacing, and delivery standards.
  • Edit the majority of weekly video content comprising long-form interviews, explainers, events, and short-form videos.
  • Oversee the YouTube channel's content packaging including thumbnails, titles, SEO, chapters, and publishing schedule to drive growth and engagement.
  • Develop and execute a strategic approach to YouTube Shorts as a distinctive content format rather than recycled material.
  • Analyze YouTube performance metrics such as retention, click-through rates, watch time, and subscriber growth to inform content planning.
  • Coordinate and execute quarterly production sessions during in-person offsite events, managing shot lists, schedules, and directing local production teams.
  • Capture and repurpose video content from PlatformCon and related events.
  • Create organized systems including intake processes, briefing templates, asset libraries, and brand guidelines to streamline production workflows.
  • Manage a roster of freelancers and specialized video production collaborators to support complex projects and increased workloads.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of hands-on professional experience with comprehensive responsibility for video production and post-production.
  • A proven track record of ownership across entire video output pipelines, not limited to single production stages.
  • Advanced proficiency with video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or Final Cut, including expertise in color correction and audio finishing.
  • Deep understanding of video production fundamentals—camera and lens selection, lighting design, and audio recording—specifically tailored to remote, non-studio environments.
  • Expertise in YouTube platform mechanics and algorithms, with demonstrated ability to improve video performance and content packaging based on measurable insights.
  • Experience creating engaging short-form videos optimized for retention and audience engagement as a standalone format.
  • Strong system-thinking aptitude; ability to document and refine workflows to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Skillful and considerate coaching of on-camera non-professional talent to uphold quality standards without compromising morale.
  • Experience briefing and overseeing external freelancers and production partners effectively.
  • Fluent in English at a native level.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for production offsites and events.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background producing videos targeted at technical or developer communities.
  • Skills in motion graphics and animation using software like After Effects.
  • Proven success growing YouTube channels with quantifiable results.
  • Experience in podcast production and audio post-processing.
  • Familiarity with multi-day batch shooting or studio-style production scheduling.
  • Knowledge of AI-assisted editing and production tools and their practical applications.
  • Experience working in startup or scale-up environments and collaborating within remote, distributed teams.

Why This Role?

You will pioneer the video production function at an established organization with a dedicated and engaged audience but no current video infrastructure. This position offers autonomy to define standards, shape visual storytelling, and influence how stories about internal developer platforms are told globally.
