Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced and visionary Senior Vice President for Specialty Operations to oversee the strategic, clinical, operational, and financial aspects of one of the largest specialty pharmacy and specialty therapeutics platforms in the country. This executive role covers comprehensive leadership of national specialty pharmacy operations including dispensing, patient services, access, reimbursement, revenue cycle, pharmacy fulfillment, clinical operations, digital enablement, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulate and implement a multi-year specialty operations strategy aligned with the company’s growth and market expansion objectives.
  • Lead nationwide specialty pharmacy operations encompassing dispensing, fulfillment, patient onboarding, care coordination, reimbursement support, and centers of excellence.
  • Develop scalable operating models supporting growth across chronic, rare, orphan, oncology, immunology, neurology, and other specialty therapeutic areas.
  • Drive consistent enterprise operations to ensure service excellence, productivity, and superior patient outcomes across all sites.
  • Serve on the Specialty and Enterprise Leadership Team to shape organizational strategies and long-term investments.
  • Manage performance of specialty pharmacy and buy-and-bill revenue cycle functions.
  • Implement enterprise strategies to optimize reimbursement, accelerate cash collections, reduce revenue leakage, and improve claims performance.
  • Oversee patient access, benefits investigations, prior authorizations, financial assistance, copay support, claims management, and collections.
  • Collaborate with Finance and Commercial teams to enhance profitable growth, margins, and operational efficiency.
  • Administer a multi-hundred-million-dollar budget while meeting growth and EBITDA goals.
  • Provide executive oversight for dispensing operations covering a variety of specialty therapeutic categories including gene/cell therapy-adjacent areas.
  • Promote best-in-class patient experience, adherence, persistence, and clinical outcomes.
  • Ensure readiness for new specialty medications, limited distribution drugs, and innovative care models.
  • Lead efforts in network optimization and operational scalability supporting national growth.
  • Champion specialty operations digital transformation initiatives including AI, machine learning, predictive analytics, robotic process automation, and workflow intelligence.
  • Modernize pharmacy operating models to improve efficiency, quality, forecasting, patient engagement, and workforce effectiveness.
  • Create a data-driven environment with real-time dashboards, predictive metrics, and advanced analytics.
  • Instill a culture of operational excellence through Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methods.
  • Lead enterprise projects aimed at productivity gains, cycle-time reduction, capacity optimization, quality improvement, and cost savings.
  • Standardize performance management frameworks and implement KPI governance.
  • Maintain accountability for operational, service, quality, compliance, and financial results.
  • Lead a large national team including VPs, regional leaders, pharmacists, operations and revenue cycle leaders, reimbursement specialists, and support staff.
  • Build and mentor a high-performing leadership team capable of supporting sustained growth and expansion.
  • Attract, retain, and develop executive and emerging leadership talent.
  • Foster a culture founded on accountability, innovation, collaboration, and patient-centered focus.
  • Collaborate with EVP Specialty Sales & Solutions to support manufacturer, payer, provider, health system, and strategic growth initiatives.
  • Support acquisition integration, strategic partnerships, and new business development efforts.
  • Translate market trends, competitive intelligence, and customer insights into operational capabilities that provide competitive advantages.
  • Represent the organization with manufacturers, payers, health systems, accreditation bodies, and industry groups.
  • Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and regulatory standards governing specialty pharmacy operations.
  • Maintain accreditation readiness for URAC, ACHC, NABP, and other applicable organizations.
  • Oversee safety, quality programs, audit readiness, and enterprise risk management.
  • Uphold the highest legal, ethical, clinical, and regulatory standards.

Candidate Profile

The preferred candidate will be a proven healthcare executive with a strong history of leading complex, high-growth specialty pharmacy organizations on a national scale.

Required Experience

  • At least 15 years of progressive leadership experience within specialty pharmacy, healthcare operations, specialty therapeutics, or related sectors.
  • Significant executive experience managing national, multi-site specialty pharmacy operations.
  • Proven expertise in revenue cycle management, reimbursement, patient access, and buy-and-bill functions.
  • Experience overseeing large organizations with 1,000+ team members spread across multiple locations.
  • Demonstrated success in leading digital transformation using technology, analytics, automation, and AI.
  • Strong track record of achieving growth, margin improvement, productivity, and operational excellence.
  • Experience with full P&L responsibilities including revenue, EBITDA, budgeting, and capital planning.
  • Deep knowledge in specialty therapeutics across multiple complex disease areas.
  • Successful application of Lean, Six Sigma, or similar operational excellence methodologies.

Preferred Experience

  • Executive leadership within national specialty pharmacy, PBM specialty platforms, integrated healthcare delivery, specialty infusion, or large pharmaceutical organizations.
  • Expertise with limited distribution drug networks, manufacturer programs, and specialty commercialization.
  • Experience managing acquisitions and scaling during rapid enterprise growth.
  • Certification as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or Master Black Belt preferred.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in life sciences.
  • Master’s degree highly preferred.
  • Advanced degrees such as MBA, MHA, R.Ph, PharmD, or related healthcare/business degrees are highly valued.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $268,135.68 to $446,875.66, depending on education, experience, skills, and alignment with market benchmarks.
