Job Description

The Senior Vice President, Technology & Innovation (SVP) is the executive leader responsible for driving the Advancement organization’s technology vision, strategy, and execution. This role involves defining a multi-year technology strategy for a modern, AI-integrated ecosystem, ensuring that infrastructure and data systems directly support advancement goals and the organizational mission. As a key member of the Senior Management Team, the SVP will align technology strategy with organizational strategy, ensuring all technology investments contribute directly to mission impact and the Advancing IU2030 strategic plan. This position oversees the Advancement Technology Services and Business Transformation leaders.

Essential Functions

Enterprise Technology & AI Strategy

  • Technology Strategy & Roadmap: Develop and implement a comprehensive multi-year technology strategy that aligns with the Foundation’s long-term growth objectives and university-wide initiatives.
  • AI Enablement: Lead the integration of AI and machine learning to enhance fundraising predictive modeling, streamline operations, and embed data-informed decision-making throughout the organization.
  • Innovation Advocacy: Stay abreast of emerging technology trends within the non-profit and higher education sectors to ensure IUF’s technology strategy continually enhances philanthropic impact.

Technology Risk & Governance

  • Enterprise Architecture: Maintain the integrity and scalability of the Foundation’s CRM platform and enterprise systems, ensuring a unified source of truth for constituent and financial data.
  • Cybersecurity & Risk: Direct robust cybersecurity frameworks, technology risk management protocols, and technology disaster recovery plans to protect the organization from evolving cyber threats, collaborating closely with the Enterprise Risk Management Director.
  • Board Engagement: Act as the executive liaison to the Board, providing insights on technology investments, cybersecurity posture, and the return on investment for technology initiatives.

Operational Excellence & Modernization

  • Process Transformation: Partner with senior leadership to modernize internal workflows by replacing existing systems with cloud-based, automated, and scalable solutions.
  • Infrastructure Management: Ensure a reliable, high-availability technical infrastructure that supports a hybrid workforce and facilitates seamless collaboration across IU’s multi-campus environment.
  • Vendor & Ecosystem Management: Develop and manage strategic technology vendor partnerships to ensure high service levels, foster innovation, and deliver long-term value to the Foundation.

Leadership & Culture

  • Team Empowerment: Lead a high-performing IT team, cultivating a culture of agility, continuous learning, and service-oriented delivery.
  • Technology Literacy: Promote organizational technology literacy, empowering all staff to confidently utilize new tools and AI competencies to advance the mission.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Foster collaboration across departments to ensure technology solutions are designed with end-users (constituents, staff, and university partners) in mind.
  • Strategic Cross-Functional Collaboration: Lead the Business Transformation Office (BTO) to act as an organizational connector, driving strong collaboration between technology, fundraising, and university partners. Ensure solutions are co-created with end-users to maximize adoption and constituent impact.
  • Change Advocacy: Serve as a primary change agent, using the BTO to manage the human aspects of technological transitions, ensuring organizational culture evolves in sync with the modern, AI-integrated ecosystem.
