Senior Surveyor

Job Overview

The Senior Surveyor will primarily assess and evaluate vessels and maritime and offshore structures during and post-construction to ensure compliance with statutory and bespoke service requirements governed by international regulations, classification standards, or client-specific guidelines. Additionally, this role may involve oversight of office administrative procedures and the supervision of business performance at a designated port.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the organization's expert specialist, applying relevant rules, regulations, principles, and procedures related to maritime surveying.
• Stay informed of emerging methods and advancements influencing the technical scope of assigned tasks; propose updates to surveying processes and safety initiatives accordingly.
• Plan, coordinate, and schedule various surveying phases, ensuring service quality throughout all inspections.
• Liaise with clients to address and resolve technical issues within area of specialization.
• Generate precise and timely reports documenting all inspections and survey activities.
• Supervise and review all work carried out by junior surveyors to uphold quality, consistency, and thoroughness.
• Provide guidance, mentorship, and training to less experienced surveyors; promote organizational services to both prospective and existing clients.
• Maintain organized and current survey documentation within the area of responsibility.

Qualifications and Experience

• Possession of a bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant technical field is preferred, along with prior marine industry experience and appropriate specialized certifications or licenses.
• Minimum qualifications include either a degree or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution in engineering or physical sciences, or a qualification from a maritime or nautical institute combined with certified seagoing officer experience.
• Proficiency in English language is required.
• Generally, candidates should have at least 8 years of experience in a related technical discipline or industry.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Comprehensive understanding of maritime environments and their impact on ships and structures.
• Solid foundation in survey training with practical experience inspecting vessels in operation.
• Thorough knowledge of ABS Classification Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and the ABS Employee Safety Policy.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and a strong grasp of shipbuilding processes and vessel operations.
• Familiarity with certificate formats, logging procedures, and invoice preparation.
• Effective oral and written communication skills within specialized technical contexts.
• Strong analytical abilities for problem-solving and proposing effective solutions.
• Customer responsiveness and collaborative team working aptitude.
• Working knowledge of Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management Systems as applied by ABS.
