Role Overview

We have an immediate opening for a Senior SAP ABAP HR Consultant specializing in Payroll. This remote position requires a proven professional with more than a decade of SAP ABAP development experience and extensive knowledge in SAP HCM Payroll. The successful candidate will develop, enhance and maintain SAP HCM Payroll solutions, collaborating closely with functional teams and stakeholders to ensure robust and scalable HR and payroll systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement SAP HCM applications using ABAP Objects and HR programming methods.
• Create custom reports, interfaces, enhancements, forms, workflows, and data conversions within SAP HCM.
• Develop specialized payroll programs for processing, reconciliation, retroactive accounting, and payroll reporting.
• Enhance payroll processes through User Exits, BAdIs, and the Enhancement Framework specific to HR modules.
• Build detailed wage type reports, payroll reconciliation outputs, and statutory compliance reports.
• Develop and maintain interfaces connecting SAP Payroll with external tax, benefits, banking, finance, and time management systems.
• Utilize IDocs, BAPIs, RFCs, SOAP/REST APIs, Proxies, and middleware for interface development.
• Design Smart Forms, Adobe Forms, and SAPScripts to meet payroll form requirements.
• Create and support HR Logical Databases, Infosets, Ad Hoc Queries, and ALV reports using key data structures.
• Work extensively with HR Infotypes and modules including Personnel Administration, Organizational Management, Time Management, and Payroll.
• Implement HR-specific enhancements using Infotype Framework and Dynamic Actions.
• Collaborate with functional consultants on payroll schema and PCR technical improvements.
• Ensure payroll data validation and troubleshoot issues during payroll cycles.
• Refine ABAP code to optimize performance and align with SAP best practices.
• Provide support for payroll production issues throughout payroll periods including month-end and year-end.
• Work integratively with Finance, Benefits, Time Management, Security, and Basis teams to ensure cohesive HR solutions.
• Document technical designs, testing plans, code reviews, and deployment procedures.
• Participate in SAP upgrade projects, enhancement pack implementations, and S/4HANA migrations.

Technical and Functional Skills

• Expertise in SAP HR ABAP including advanced programming techniques, ABAP Objects, and reports (classical, interactive, ALV).
• Proficient in module pool programming, Smart Forms, Adobe Forms, SAPScript, BDC, BAPI, RFC, IDocs, and enhancement technologies such as BAdIs, User Exits, and Customer Exits.
• Experience with Proxy Development, Web Services, OData Services; familiarity with CDS Views and AMDP is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of SAP HCM modules including Personnel Administration, Organizational Management, Payroll, Time Management, Benefits, Personnel Development, ESS/MSS, and HR Renewal.
• In-depth understanding of payroll processing components: Payroll Driver, Schemas, Personnel Calculation Rules, Wage Types, Payroll Clusters, Retro and Off-cycle payroll, Payroll Posting and Reconciliation, Tax Reporting, Garnishments, Payroll Control Center.
• HR technical expertise in Infotypes, Logical Databases (PNP, PNPCE), Authorization Objects, Dynamic Actions, Feature Programming, Custom Infotypes, Cluster Reading Programs, HR Macros.
• Experience with integrations using SAP PI/PO, SAP CPI, Event Mesh, REST and SOAP APIs, SuccessFactors, and third-party payroll or banking interfaces.
• Database skills in SAP HANA, Open SQL, CDS Views, and performance optimization techniques.
• Comprehensive functional understanding of end-to-end payroll processing, payroll configuration, time evaluation and recording, payroll posting to Finance, wage type configuration, benefits management, employee master data, and compliance and auditing activities.

Preferred Experience

• Familiarity with SAP S/4HANA HCM compatibility pack and SAP HCM for S/4HANA.
• Experience with Employee Central Payroll (ECP), SAP SuccessFactors Integration, Payroll Control Center, SAP Fiori for HCM, and SAP Business Technology Platform integrations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or related disciplines.
• SAP ABAP certification preferred.
• SAP HCM or Payroll certification advantageous.
