Overview
Guardian Industries is expanding its Glass Technology and Development (GTD) capabilities in the Middle East, seeking a Senior Research and Development Scientist or Senior Research Engineer. This role will be based in Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia or Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, and will focus on pioneering new products and technologies for architectural glass applications.
Role and Responsibilities
- Lead development and global launch of novel thin film technologies and glass products.
- Manage and coordinate development plans collaborating closely with relevant stakeholders.
- Direct change management processes associated with launching new technologies or products.
- Disseminate technical expertise and foster capability building within diverse teams.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to production units.
- Research and implement industry best practices to enhance processes.
- Utilize structured product development methodologies, such as stage gate processes.
- Improve technical knowledge regarding products and production procedures.
- Effectively communicate ideas and project plans to multiple audiences.
- Collaborate with global and multicultural cross-functional teams.
- Partner closely with operations to support product launch and transfer activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Materials Science, Engineering, Physics, or related disciplines.
- Practical experience with thin film technologies, notably vacuum sputtering.
- Competency in experimental design and statistical data analysis.
- Demonstrated leadership in managing scientists or technical staff.
Preferred Expertise
- Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in a relevant technical field.
- Proficiency with magnetron sputtering and other thin film techniques.
- Understanding of process enhancement strategies including quality, stability, yield, and throughput improvements.
- Hands-on use of coating characterization tools like Zeiss microscopy, Residual Gas Analyzers (RGA), and plasma systems.
- Experience with quality control lab equipment and testing procedures for coatings.
- Knowledge of failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) and process refinement methods.
- Track record solving complex technical challenges effectively.
- Familiarity with structured product and process development frameworks.
- Skills in thin film modeling and optical simulation software.
