Role overview

The Senior Project and Policy Officer in the EM Unit supports the Executive Manager, EM Unit by leading the review and development of operational policies, procedures, and projects.

What we are looking for

  • Experience using legislation and whole-of-government policy to shape QAS operational doctrine and strategy, with a track record of improving compliance and driving continuous improvement. This includes writing policy and procedure documents and preparing briefing papers on a variety of matters.
  • Strong conceptual thinking and problem-solving ability, with the capability to collect, assess, and question information and data from multiple sources and turn it into clear, thorough documents.
  • Demonstrated success in project delivery, including taking responsibility for objectives, tracking progress against milestones, and balancing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to communicate persuasively in both spoken and written form while maintaining a consistently professional standard.
  • Proven skill in engaging stakeholders and building effective working relationships across internal and external groups, along with a strong commitment to quality service and collaborative teamwork.

Mandatory and special conditions

  • The role may involve official travel, and a C class driver licence may be required.
  • Although not compulsory, a recognised degree in information technology and PRINCE2 certification, along with hands-on use of project management tools and systems, will be viewed favourably.
  • Additional qualifications in education, emergency management, or disaster management fields would also be an advantage.
  • This position may involve shift work, including weekends and public holidays, as well as on-call duties and overtime.
