Job description

About the role

Worley Canada Construction is hiring a Senior Procurement Specialist to drive purchasing activity across technically complex project scopes. The role covers engineered equipment, bulk permanent materials, and indirect project purchasing, and it spans the complete procurement cycle from request for quotation through award, purchase order execution, and final closeout. The position is centered on commercial discipline, risk reduction, and value delivery within a fast-moving EPC/EPF and construction setting.

Worley is an international professional services organization focused on energy, chemicals, and resources. In Alberta and western Canada, the company is known for industrial construction work across fabrication, modularization, field installation, and professional support services for heavy-oil facilities, gas plants, power stations, renewable energy projects, and other industrial developments. Team members also benefit from access to shared resources and opportunities across more than 20 Canadian offices and 40 countries.

Work schedule

This position is based out of the Edmonton home office on a Monday-to-Friday schedule, with 40 hours of work per week.

What you'll do

  • Take ownership of procurement for assigned project packages, keeping buying activity aligned with the project timeline, budget, and execution plan.
  • Develop sourcing approaches for engineered equipment, bulk permanent materials, and indirect procurement needs.
  • Support and coach junior buyers and other procurement team members.
  • Serve as a primary link between procurement and the project management, engineering, and construction groups.
  • Review material requisitions raised by the project team.
  • Prepare and circulate RFQ and RFP packages tailored to project requirements.
  • Identify, assess, and compare suppliers based on quality, pricing, and delivery capability.
  • Recommend preferred suppliers using a well-rounded evaluation process.
  • Draft, issue, and administer accurate purchase orders in a timely manner.
  • Handle complex purchase orders and agreements throughout their lifecycle.
  • Maintain compliance with contractual terms, project requirements, and company standards.
  • Spot and reduce commercial exposure such as scope gaps, schedule risk, and cost escalation.
  • Manage change orders, claims, and commercial exceptions during procurement.
  • Keep PO administration accurate to support invoicing and financial control.
  • Complete purchase order closeout once all contractual and procedural obligations are satisfied.
  • Work alongside project management, construction, clients, quality control, project controls, accounts payable, and suppliers.
  • Stay current on procurement workflows and customer-specific requirements.
  • Keep procurement activity synchronized with construction priorities.
  • Track deadlines closely and escalate scheduling concerns early.
  • Prepare and share procurement reports with clients and internal stakeholders when needed.

Requirements

  • 7 to 12+ years of experience in procurement or supply chain roles, ideally in EPC/EPF or industrial construction environments.
  • Hands-on experience sourcing complex engineered equipment and project materials.
  • Strong commercial judgment and negotiation skills for contracts and supplier discussions.
  • Proven track record in managing supplier relationships and resolving commercial issues.
  • Advanced capability in Excel and procurement software.
  • Ability to stay effective under pressure in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with Aveva ERM or a similar ERP/procurement platform is preferred.
  • A diploma, degree, or certification in Supply Chain Management, Business, or Engineering is preferred.
  • Exposure to both home office and field/project environments is preferred.
