Role overview

This fixed-term part-time physiotherapy post sits within the Oxford Gait Laboratory at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, part of Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The appointment runs for 24 months and ends on 31 March 2028. The role is for 18.75 hours per week and is based in Oxford, England.

The Gait Laboratory provides a national clinical gait analysis service, using objective assessment of walking ability to help guide surgical, therapeutic and orthotic decisions. The successful applicant will contribute to advanced 3D gait analysis work, including kinematics, kinetics, EMG and foot pressure measurement, while supporting the care of children with cerebral palsy and children and adults with neurological and orthopaedic conditions.

Team and working environment

You will work within a multidisciplinary team made up of orthopaedic surgeons, physiotherapists, clinical scientists and clinical technologists. The post also offers opportunities to take part in research, audit, clinical governance and specialist training in gait analysis. The role may include participation in the orthopaedic weekend on-call rota, approximately one weekend every four months.

Key duties

• Offer specialist physiotherapy input for patients attending the Gait Laboratory.
• Carry out clinical assessments and 3D gait analysis using advanced motion analysis systems.
• Review complex gait data and use the findings to support therapeutic, orthotic and surgical recommendations with the wider clinical team.
• Apply specialist clinical reasoning when managing children and adults with cerebral palsy and other neurological or orthopaedic conditions.
• Provide expert guidance to patients, physiotherapists and other healthcare professionals on the management of cerebral palsy and related conditions.

Additional information

This role is described as Senior Physiotherapist, Band 7. Experience in gait analysis is desirable. The ideal candidate will bring paediatric and/or neuro-rehabilitation experience, an interest in teaching and research, strong time management, flexibility, the ability to work independently, and excellent teamwork skills.
