Job Purpose

The Cluster Head - Solar role is responsible for managing the operational and financial effectiveness of solar sites under their cluster. This involves attaining key performance indicators (plant availability, grid availability, capacity utilization), optimizing operational costs, enhancing efficiency, and leading technology adoption, safety, and compliance. The role also focuses on nurturing a competent and safety-conscious workforce to fulfill the company's long-term business goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Achieve and maintain performance targets such as Plant Load Factor (PR), Capacity Utilization Factor (CUF), Plant Availability (PA), and Grid Availability (GA) across all cluster sites.
  • Ensure timely completion of audits with zero repeat observations.
  • Manage inventory diligently to maintain stock levels within specified maximum and minimum limits and apply VED, FSN, and ABC material categorizations.
  • Implement advanced technological initiatives including Google IC and cultivate a cluster-wide operations and maintenance approach.
  • Monitor and control Direct Supply Management (DSM) costs within the approved budget.
  • Analyze weekly interruption reports to proactively address root causes and corrective actions to improve asset reliability.
  • Oversee comprehensive SAP system implementation ensuring proper scheduling and maintenance notification handling within timelines.
  • Prepare detailed budgets (OPEX, CAPEX, procurement) and monitor actual expenditures against the plan for every site.
  • Manage O&M expenses effectively through spares optimization and cost-efficient solutions.
  • Drive people development by attracting, retaining, and training site teams, ensuring alignment with training schedules and developing future leaders for critical roles.
  • Promote and enforce a safety-first culture to achieve zero accidents or lost time injuries (LTIs) through regular training and safety dialogues.
  • Maintain 100% compliance with safety protocols, legal requirements, and management systems, including ESG initiatives, 5S, IMS, business excellence, and regulatory certifications.
  • Lead adoption of innovations for operational efficiency such as water-saving module cleaning and cost-effective vegetation management.
  • Drive process improvements and data-driven solutions aimed at reducing downtime and boosting overall site performance.
  • Support business excellence frameworks and community engagement activities (CSR), ensuring adherence to SOPs and successful management of VIP visits and events.

Key Stakeholders

Internal stakeholders include the CEO, O&M Head, Central Cluster Head, as well as heads of project, engineering, safety, HR, finance, and other supporting departments. External relationships encompass clients, investors, regulatory bodies, vendors, contractors, OEMs, grid authorities, government officials, and local communities.

Educational & Experience Requirements

  • B.E./B.Tech or Diploma in Electrical, Electronics or Solar Energy-related sectors.
  • MBA qualification is considered an advantage.
  • Minimum 20 years of experience in the energy sector; diploma holders should have 22-23 years of experience.
