Job Purpose

The Lead - Geology (Hydro PSP) role entails heading all geological investigations and geotechnical risk management related to Hydro Pumped Storage Projects. The position ensures strategic geological insights are incorporated into project planning and execution, overseeing geological survey activities, environmental collaboration, and data governance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage comprehensive geological site studies to evaluate potential Hydro PSP locations, employing advanced data collection and analytic techniques.
• Oversee the design and execution of geological site investigation plans, aligning with industry best practices and providing critical data to inform project decisions.
• Steer geotechnical risk assessment and mitigation activities addressing hazards like landslides, seismic risks, and soil instability, ensuring compliance with project goals and regulations.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to manage geological risks effectively throughout project stages.
• Direct the development of detailed geological maps and 3D models that characterize subsurface conditions, frequently updating these with new data to maintain relevance.
• Supervise geological monitoring during construction and operational phases, leading timely identification and resolution of geological changes to maintain project safety and stability.
• Lead cooperation with environmental teams to integrate geological expertise into Environmental Impact Assessments, focusing on impacts on water, erosion, habitats, and developing mitigation strategies based on geological evidence.
• Maintain comprehensive geological databases and documentation systems to ensure data is accurately recorded, organized, and readily accessible for stakeholders and future projects.

Stakeholder Engagement

Work closely with various internal departments including Project Management, Engineering, Finance, HR, Procurement, Safety, IT, and Legal. Externally, collaborate with government regulators, grid authorities, equipment suppliers, land owners, local communities, environmental consultants, financial institutions, and research bodies.

Qualifications and Experience

• Educational background in B.Tech and Master's degree in Hydrology or Geotechnical Engineering, or a BSc in Geology.
• Additional certifications like Certified Engineering Geologist (CEG) or Post Graduate Diploma in Geotechnical Engineering from recognized Indian institutions are desirable.
• Minimum 12 years of experience in geological engineering projects, preferably in large-scale infrastructure within the energy sector, with proven expertise in hydro pumped storage systems.
• Relevant experience in hydropower or water resource project geological assessments, planning, and construction is highly valued.
