Job description

Role overview

Gameloft is hiring a Senior Level Designer to help define and build the world for its upcoming games. In this role, you will shape immersive spaces that encourage exploration, support gameplay and story, and deliver a strong visual experience. You will work closely with the Lead Designer, Art Director, and Quest Designers to ensure the world feels cohesive, engaging, and playable.

What you will do

  • Support and uphold the creative vision for a believable, immersive world that serves gameplay, narrative, and visual goals.
  • Lead the development of terrain, landscapes, and environmental features, while setting direction and reviewing quality.
  • Create and refine environments such as towns, dungeons, wilderness zones, and other points of interest, along with the design standards that guide them.
  • Use strong level design knowledge to shape flow, pacing, composition, and environmental storytelling.
  • Work with quest designers to place content effectively and make sure it fits naturally within the world.
  • Review level design work with clear, practical feedback focused on playability, visual quality, and immersion.
  • Communicate level design ideas and technical needs to art and engineering teams, acting as a key liaison.
  • Produce original environment concepts within technical limits and artistic direction.
  • Create detailed level documentation such as layout maps, environment notes, and design reasoning.
  • Prototype and iterate on levels to balance exploration, combat, and narrative beats, then guide the refinement process.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level level designers and help strengthen their technical and artistic skills.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of professional level design experience, with an advantage for candidates who have worked on open-world or large-scale action-adventure environments.
  • Experience in a professional game studio and a track record of shipping multiple titles.
  • Hands-on ability with world-building tools such as Unreal Engine World Composition and terrain sculpting software.
  • Strong command of level design principles, environmental storytelling, and industry best practices, backed by a portfolio that demonstrates this work.
  • Proven leadership ability with the confidence to guide and motivate a team.
  • Proactive, collaborative, and comfortable working across disciplines with strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for games and a modern approach to building engaging worlds.

Benefits and perks

  • Flexible working arrangements that help support work-life balance.
  • Subsidised car parking.
  • Learning and development support for ongoing career growth.
  • Employee referral program with attractive bonuses.
  • Private health insurance and fitness subsidies.
  • Mental health and wellbeing support for employees.
  • Paid parental leave and childcare assistance.
  • Access to a dedicated relaxation area, including a massage chair.
  • Extra paid leave options, including birthday leave, Christmas shutdown leave, volunteer leave, and women’s health leave.
  • Free coffee from a commercial espresso machine, plus daily snacks and a light breakfast.
  • Friday social drinks and friendly game tournaments.
  • Rooftop terrace with river views and a games room.
  • Gameloft-branded merchandise.
  • Presence of the studio mascot, Mr Hendricks, the friendly Dachshund who watches over the studio.
