Job description

Role overview

This position is responsible for overseeing local legal matters across Middle Eastern countries and ensuring the business operates in line with applicable laws and regulations. The role partners closely with business, local legal, and global legal teams to support compliant expansion and day-to-day operations.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage local legal matters in Middle Eastern markets to help the company remain compliant while operating.
  • Draft, review, translate, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents in both Chinese and English, while assisting business teams with legal issues as they arise.
  • Handle routine legal consultation, compliance checks, government communications, and interactions with regulators.
  • Support the creation and improvement of subsidiary compliance systems and legal risk controls, and help implement headquarter compliance policies and standards.
  • Work with local counsel and the global legal team to keep legal frameworks and compliance requirements aligned across jurisdictions.
  • Build and maintain a network of external lawyers, law firms, and other legal service providers.
  • Assist with internal training, legal awareness initiatives, and efforts to strengthen employees’ compliance mindset.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in law or a related field.
  • At least 7 years of legal experience in cross-border business matters, along with a background in international legal work or overseas education in an English-speaking country.
  • Strong English fluency, including the ability to draft, translate, and communicate legal content in both Chinese and English.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills, plus the ability to explain complex legal matters clearly to non-legal colleagues.
  • Familiarity with government regulatory processes, government liaison work, and experience responding to investigations and official inquiries.
  • Solid communication, coordination, teamwork, and cross-cultural adaptation skills.
  • Detail-oriented, accountable, able to handle pressure, and comfortable managing complex legal projects in a fast-moving environment.
  • Open to learning quickly and taking on new challenges.
  • Preferred: legal experience in internet, platform, logistics, warehousing, or food delivery industries.
  • Preferred: prior work experience in Kuwait or Qatar.
  • Preferred: qualification to practice law in China or another jurisdiction.
  • Preferred: Arabic language ability.

This is an onsite full-time role based in Doha, Qatar.
