Job description
About LIC
LIC is a farmer-owned co-operative that has supported herd improvement in New Zealand’s dairy industry for over 115 years. The organisation focuses on genetics, testing and diagnostics, on-farm software, and customer support to help farmers make better decisions every day.
As a long-standing co-operative, LIC works for farmers, their families, and rural communities now and into the future. Its people are central to that mission, whether they are on farm, in the laboratory, or working behind the scenes.
Role overview
This position is based in Newstead and reports to the Team Leader Production. You will work in the Liquid Despatch Lab as part of the Semen Production team.
The main purpose of the role is to manage important semen-processing work so product despatch deadlines are consistently met. The position also includes a leadership element, with responsibility for supporting and coordinating seasonal staff so operations remain efficient during busy periods.

- Supervise staff, provide training, and keep training records up to date.
- Support the Team Leader Production with hiring and staff rostering.
- Maintain quality control and ensure compliance requirements are followed.
- Handle liquid semen allocation for LIC’s LLL products.
- Ensure daily despatch targets and operational deadlines are achieved.
- Review, refresh, and implement standard operating procedures.
- Contribute to technical and operational process improvements and technology changes.
- Assist with procurement activities and keep stock levels sufficient.
Experience and skills needed
The ideal person will bring strong communication skills, a practical mindset, and the confidence to work in a demanding production setting.
- Strong written and verbal communication with good interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to train and guide staff effectively.
- Good problem-solving ability.
- Experience in a fast-paced production environment.
- Understanding of laboratory processes and quality expectations.
- Ability to work well with internal teams, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Highly organised and able to manage several priorities at once.
- Comfortable using Word and Excel; SAP knowledge would be an advantage.
- A science qualification at tertiary level or prior lab experience is preferred, though not mandatory.
Benefits
Along with a competitive salary, the role includes a range of employee benefits.
- Additional leave entitlements.
- Discounted health, life, income protection, and disability insurance.
- Access to the employee share scheme.
- Wellbeing-related discounts.
- Free onsite parking and free EV charging.
