Job description
About LIC
Livestock Improvement Corporation (LIC) is a farmer-owned co-operative with over 115 years of experience supporting herd improvement in New Zealand’s dairy industry. Its work centres on genetics, testing and diagnostics, integrated on-farm software, and customer support that helps farmers make better decisions each day.
As a long-standing co-operative, LIC serves farmers, their families, and rural communities with a future-focused approach. The organisation relies on its people across farms, labs, and office teams to help New Zealand farmers thrive.
About the opportunity
LIC is hiring a Business Analyst Lead to join its established business analysis practice. This role includes direct reports and calls for a servant-leadership style, with a strong focus on people management, mentoring, and coaching to bring out the best in the team.
You will guide Business Analysts within your allocated business areas, while working alongside the BA Practice Lead and other BA Leads to promote consistent use of methods, standards, and tools. The role is also responsible for reinforcing strong business analysis practices and ensuring deliverables are of a high standard.
A key part of the job is developing a strong understanding of LIC’s roadmaps, systems, products, and environments so that decisions are aligned across business units and reflect enterprise-wide thinking. In addition, this role carries all responsibilities expected of a Senior Business Analyst.
Key responsibilities
- Advise Business Analysts in your area to help improve LIC’s products and systems for both internal teams and external customers.
- Lift team performance, helping drive business outcomes as well as ongoing gains in efficiency and productivity.
- Build and sustain strong relationships with stakeholders in your assigned business areas to deliver meaningful business value.
- Act as a mentor, coach, and subject-matter guide for Business Analysts, supporting consistent quality in the work produced.
- Help strengthen the Business Analysis Centre of Excellence by promoting best practices and continuous improvement.
- Stay across the status of team work and act as an escalation point when issues need to be resolved.
- Work with other BA Leads, the BA Practice Lead, and Technology colleagues to design, implement, and govern operational processes and methods across the software development group.
- Carry out Business Analyst work when needed, including requirements elicitation and validation.
- Support the Principal Technologist in shaping ideas and defining solutions.
- Use suitable business analysis techniques to communicate requirements clearly to the team.
- Check product designs with stakeholders and customers to confirm they meet expectations.
About you
You are flexible and comfortable working through shifting priorities in different situations. You bring curiosity and a problem-solving mindset, and you are confident taking on new challenges with creative thinking.
You will also bring:
- At least five years’ experience in a BA Lead or Senior Business Analyst role in a technology or digital setting.
- Proven experience in leading, coaching, and mentoring Business Analysts to strengthen capability and practice standards.
- A self-motivated, well-organised approach, with the ability to prioritise effectively and deliver through collaboration and influence.
- Experience using AI-enabled tools to support analysis and improve efficiency, along with an understanding of the related risks and governance requirements.
Why join LIC
This position offers the chance to work in a supportive environment within a mature and established practice. LIC is committed to creating value for customers, with teams that are collaborative, innovative, and focused on excellence.
Benefits
- Flexible working arrangement with a split between remote work and the Hamilton office.
- Free parking, free EV charging, a tennis court, a pool, and an onsite café at the Hamilton office.
- Additional leave and discounted health, life, income, and disability insurance.
Work location
The role is based in Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand, with a hybrid working setup.
