Job description
About the company
LIC is a farmer-owned cooperative that has supported herd improvement in New Zealand’s dairy industry for more than 115 years. The organisation focuses on genetics, dependable testing and diagnostics, integrated on-farm software, and customer support to help farmers make better decisions every day.
As a multigenerational cooperative, LIC works for farmers, their families, and rural communities with a long-term view. Its success depends on its people, whether they work on farm, in the laboratory, or in support roles behind the scenes.
About the role
LIC is hiring a full-time Laboratory Technician to join the Animal Health Laboratory Team within the Operations and Service Group. The position reports to the Animal Health Team Leader and is based at the Riverlea Road site in Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand.
What you will do
- Prepare bovine and caprine samples for testing in the Animal Health Laboratory.
- Record and report laboratory results accurately.
- Support the introduction and ongoing upkeep of ISO 17025 quality standards across laboratory processes.
What we are looking for
The ideal candidate will bring experience from a commercial laboratory, ideally working within ISO 17025 standards. Practical exposure to PCR and ELISA testing is preferred. You should be comfortable handling a varied workload, collaborating across teams, and using computer systems and software interfaces with confidence. This role also calls for strong motivation, the ability to perform well in a fast-moving, high-volume environment, and a consistently careful approach with strong attention to detail.
Why join LIC
LIC values continuous improvement, practical problem-solving, and a commitment to supporting New Zealand’s primary industries. The workplace is described as inclusive and diverse, bringing together scientists, veterinarians, farmers, sales professionals, and marketing specialists.
Employee benefits
Employees may receive extra leave days each year, family leave for new parents, discounted insurance, an employee share scheme, a mental health and wellbeing programme, internal training opportunities, and an employee assistance programme.
