Job description
About the organisation
The Office of the Queensland Ombudsman is an independent integrity body that helps ensure public administration in Queensland is fair, accountable and effective. It looks into complaints about Queensland Government agencies, local councils and public universities, and also examines detention services and how public sector bodies manage public interest disclosures. Its work supports stronger decision-making, greater accountability and better outcomes for the Queensland community.
About the role
The Office is hiring two Senior Investigators for the Investigation and Resolution Unit. In this position, you will handle complex and delicate administrative investigations involving Queensland public sector agencies. Cases may come from complaints, parliamentary referrals or the Ombudsman’s own-initiative actions. You will work closely with complainants and agencies, assess information thoroughly, draft clear written reasons for decisions and recommend ways to improve administrative processes and procedures.
Key responsibilities
- Run complex and sensitive administrative investigations under the Ombudsman Act.
- Maintain communication with complainants and agencies during the course of investigations.
- Review information carefully, assess risk and weigh potential resolutions.
- Prepare correspondence that sets out investigation findings and the basis for decisions.
- Write reports for varied audiences, including government agencies and Parliament.
- Spot broader systemic issues that emerge from complaints, investigations or internal reviews.
- Suggest improvements to administrative systems, practices and procedures.
- Keep accurate and up-to-date records of all work activity.
- Support better service delivery, accountability and wider organisational objectives.
Working arrangements
Depending on operational needs, the role may involve working across different functions, including Investigation and Resolution as well as Internal Review.
