Position and Work Environment

The role of Senior Innovation Lead in the Financial Product Innovation team is a permanent full-time position based in a hybrid work setting. Currently, employees are required to work two days per week onsite, increasing to three days weekly by September 2026. The position can be located at EDC's headquarters in Ottawa or any Community Hub across multiple Canadian cities, including Halifax, Nova Scotia, among others. Eligible candidates may receive relocation assistance.

Team and Role Overview

The Financial Product & Innovation team manages the full life cycle of EDC's financial product offerings, aligning them with business strategies and driving innovation to maintain customer relevance and organizational value.

The Senior Innovation Lead is responsible for leading complex initiatives around product strategy, development, and lifecycle management. This role requires strong expertise in financial products, product design, and risk assessment, acting as a strategic partner for senior-level decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and evaluate product suite performance using internal and external data systems to ensure alignment with strategic business goals.
  • Conduct detailed product reviews by integrating insights on performance, customer needs, market trends, and competitor analysis to generate actionable recommendations.
  • Analyze potential product changes including enhancements, repositioning, consolidation, or retirement while assessing impacts and associated risks.
  • Lead product discovery and innovation processes by prioritizing ideas, developing hypotheses, validating market and customer needs.
  • Define product vision, strategic direction, and roadmap in collaboration with business units, aligned with EDC priorities.
  • Prepare future-oriented analysis, business cases, and decision-support materials to guide product investments and initiatives.
  • Engage with subject matter experts and partners to gather requirements, design product parameters, and oversee implementation readiness and scalability.
  • Manage pilot launches, readiness activities, and market introductions by defining objectives and success measures.
  • Ensure product development processes comply with risk frameworks, governance, and approval protocols.
  • Identify and mitigate risks, manage dependencies, and escalate issues impacting decision-making or delivery.
  • Maintain product governance tools and methodologies aligned with corporate standards.
  • Collaborate across stakeholders to share customer insights, facilitate teamwork, and promote shared ownership of product outcomes.
  • Coach and mentor team members to enhance capabilities within the Financial Product & Innovation function.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, or a related discipline.
  • At least seven years of progressive experience in product management, development, innovation, solution delivery, or financial services.
  • Advanced understanding of financial products such as lending, insurance, guarantees, equity, and international trade instruments.
  • Strong analytical, financial, research, and strategic thinking skills to translate insights into sound recommendations.
  • Proven ability to engage and influence stakeholders at senior levels and across multiple functions.
  • A commitment to customer-centric product design focusing on value and problem-solving.

Assets That Set You Apart

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and French.
  • Advanced degrees such as an MBA or professional designations like CPA or CFA.
  • Certifications in product management (e.g., Certified Product Manager, Agile Certified Product Manager/Product Owner), or familiarity with relevant frameworks.
  • Experience in financial services, innovation, public sector, consulting, fintech, or international organizations.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary ranges between $112,006 and $149,341 annually, adjusted based on qualifications and experience, along with performance-based incentives.
