This role demands a senior HR professional capable of working autonomously within a distributed workforce and closely collaborating with leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Efficiently handle the entire employee relations caseload including routine performance issues and formal processes while maintaining precise records and documentation.
  • Offer clear and authoritative advice to line managers to ensure fair, compliant, and well-documented outcomes in line with organizational policies.
  • Manage sensitive cases with utmost confidentiality and discretion.
  • Identify patterns and trends in employee relations matters and communicate insights to the COO for proactive organizational improvements.
  • Serve as a leading coaching resource for managers, aiding them in resolving day-to-day HR challenges, enhancing their management capabilities, and fostering a culture of constructive feedback.
  • Mentor employees across all levels, with particular attention to those working remotely, to support their professional growth.
  • Design or facilitate tailored management development programs and people skills training appropriate for PxD's diverse, global workplace.
  • Recognize talent and development opportunities and collaborate with leadership to create growth pathways to retain employees.
  • Lead PxD’s safeguarding initiatives, ensuring policies and frameworks are robust, in alignment with funder mandates, and tailored to diverse operational contexts.
  • Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead, managing case triage, investigations, referrals, documentation, and appropriate escalation.
  • Create and implement safeguarding training adapted by role, geography, and risk exposure.
  • Integrate safeguarding practices into partnerships and program delivery through risk assessment and due diligence.
  • Provide regular reports to the COO and participate in funder and regulator reporting, proactively addressing emerging risks.
  • Guide the organizational change process including workforce planning, role development, and translating strategy into HR priorities alongside the COO.
  • Support organizational culture assessments and employee surveys to promote a well-functioning, inclusive workplace.
  • Provide HR counsel relevant to operational countries, considering local employment laws, and collaborate with legal advisors as needed.
  • Work jointly with the legal team on HR-related contracts, employment changes, and compliance across jurisdictions.

Candidate Profile

  • Extensive senior HR experience over 10 years, preferably with an international NGO or development sector background.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage employee relations comprehensively with sound risk assessment and judgement.
  • Experience fulfilling a Designated Safeguarding Lead role or similar senior-level safeguarding responsibilities including case management and policy enhancement.
  • Strong mentoring and coaching abilities supporting a culturally diverse and remote workforce.
  • Knowledgeable in employment laws and HR practices in multiple countries and adept at collaborating with legal experts.
  • Proven experience partnering with senior executive leaders on organizational growth and workforce strategy.
  • Exemplary communication skills with the ability to operate independently and effectively across time zones and cultures.
  • A composed, empathetic, and principled approach to sensitive or high-pressure situations.
