Role Summary

The Senior HR Generalist functions as a strategic Human Resources Business Partner embedded within MCDC, delivering consultative and client-centric HR services to leaders and staff across multiple dental clinic locations. This is a seasoned role requiring a blend of strategic vision, operational efficiency, and a passion for people, moving beyond routine HR transactions to shaping culture and workforce planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with designated client groups, constructing trusted relationships with leadership and frontline personnel across centers.
  • Offer forward-thinking, data-driven HR guidance on workforce planning, organizational design, talent development, and performance management.
  • Collaborate with the Chief People Officer and leadership to align HR strategies with overall organizational goals and mission.
  • Travel up to 20% within Michigan to support various center locations onsite.
  • Lead thorough and legally compliant employee relations investigations.
  • Apply and interpret company policies, employee handbook directives, and relevant federal and state labor laws including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEOC, HIPAA, ERISA, and I-9 regulations.
  • Coach managers on performance management, corrective measures, and conflict resolution using a supportive approach.
  • Manage end-to-end recruitment for assigned groups including sourcing, screening, extending offers, and clinical staff credentialing.
  • Develop and enhance onboarding experiences to ensure new hires succeed from day one.
  • Work with hiring managers on role descriptions, compensation strategies, and workforce planning.
  • Conduct compensation analyses and provide salary recommendations grounded in market and internal equity data.
  • Assist with annual benefits enrollment and act as a resource for employee benefits questions.
  • Administer and track leaves of absence such as FMLA, short-term disability, and workers’ compensation.
  • Design and facilitate leadership coaching, soft skills training, and team effectiveness programs.
  • Lead employee recognition and engagement initiatives to strengthen MCDC’s culture and values.
  • Promote an inclusive, high-performance workplace culture as a culture ambassador.
  • Maintain accurate employee data within the HRIS, generate reports, and support HR process improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 7 years progressive HR experience with demonstrated success as a strategic HR Business Partner or senior HR generalist.
  • Proven ability to develop trusted client relationships and influence stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Extensive knowledge of employment laws and HR compliance including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEOC, HIPAA, ERISA, and I-9.
  • Experience managing complex employee relations and conducting formal workplace investigations.
  • Strong analytical skills with capacity to translate HR-related data into practical insights.
  • Excellent communication skills, including executive presence and experience presenting to senior leadership.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% to various locations across Michigan.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship is required.

Preferred Attributes

  • HR certifications such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR.
  • Experience in healthcare, dental, or other regulated clinical environments.
  • Proficiency with HRIS platforms like UKG, Workday, or equivalents.
  • Background supporting multi-site or geographically distributed organizations.
  • Knowledge in coaching, leadership development, or organizational effectiveness.

Additional Information

  • Compensation begins at $75,000 annually.
  • This role reports directly to the Chief People Officer and is classified as non-exempt.
  • Remote work is based in Michigan with mandatory travel up to 20% for multi-site visits.
