Job Role Overview
This position is responsible for managing accounts receivable collections for e-commerce and marketplace channels, securing timely payments, handling deduction management, resolving disputes, and optimizing working capital. The role involves close collaboration with e-commerce, sales, commercial, and finance teams to enhance collection efficiency, improve cash flow, prevent revenue losses, and enforce strong financial controls over major marketplace accounts.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead initiatives to improve working capital by managing receivables and collection strategies effectively.
- Analyze customer payment trends, aging reports, and collection performance to identify cash flow enhancement opportunities.
- Monitor overdue payments and implement measures to lower Days Sales Outstanding (DSO).
- Detect revenue leakages, analyze deduction patterns, and pursue collection recovery to boost profitability.
- Collaborate with commercial, sales, and finance teams to enhance collection outcomes and working capital.
- Manage collections from e-commerce customers and marketplace partners to meet periodic financial targets.
- Track outstanding balances by customer and proactively follow up to ensure timely payments.
- Reconcile receivables considering remittances, deductions, claims, returns, and settlements.
- Extract and verify transaction data from SAP and other systems to identify underpayments and pricing discrepancies for recovery.
- Address overdue invoices, escalations, and disputes to ensure closure.
- Prepare regular collection forecasts, aging summaries, dashboards, and management reports.
- Identify high-risk accounts and take focused actions to minimize credit exposure.
- Review and validate customer deductions on trade promotions, discounts, returns, and claims to ensure accuracy.
- Process credit and debit notes timely and accurately using ERP, SAP, and DMS platforms.
- Reconcile deductions with commercial agreements and ensure proper accounting treatment, aiming to recover invalid deductions through negotiation and dispute resolution.
- Maintain strict adherence to finance policies, standard operating procedures, and compliance mandates.
- Support automation and improvements in receivable tracking, provisioning, balance confirmation, and credit note processing workflows.
- Keep customer master data and credit control records up to date.
- Conduct periodic General Ledger reconciliations related to receivables, discounts, returns, and provisions.
- Assist with month-end and year-end financial closures by ensuring accurate provisioning and reporting.
- Facilitate audits and maintain compliance with internal and external control frameworks.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve process efficiency, accuracy, and governance standards.
- Perform regular customer account reconciliations and secure balance confirmations.
- Investigate and resolve issues pertaining to invoice disputes, claim mismatches, short payments, unapplied receipts, and other exceptions.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams such as e-commerce, sales, supply chain, customer service, and finance to resolve challenges.
- Monitor customer advances, deposits, disputed balances, and unapplied cash ensuring timely settlements.
- Resolve claims involving rebates, returns, pricing differences, discounts, and promotional schemes promptly.
- Partner closely with e-commerce business teams, sales, and finance departments to support revenue objectives and working capital targets.
- Act as the primary liaison for accounts receivable-related collections and commercial queries for assigned customers.
- Offer data-driven insights on customer payment behavior, deduction trends, credit risks, and collection challenges.
- Develop strong relationships with marketplace partners to expedite collections and dispute resolutions.
- Foster cross-department collaboration to meet collection goals and enhance overall accounts receivable performance.
Qualifications and Experience
- Preferably an MBA in Finance, CA Intermediate, or CMA Intermediate.
- 2 to 6 years of relevant experience in accounts receivable, collections, commercial finance, revenue accounting, or e-commerce finance functions.
- Experience in retail, fashion, lifestyle, FMCG, consumer products, or e-commerce industries is desirable.
- Knowledge of major marketplace platforms such as Myntra, Amazon, Flipkart, AJIO, Nykaa Fashion, Tata Cliq, etc. is an advantage.
