Job description
About the company
BOND Creative is a Calgary-based design consultancy specializing in environmental graphic design and corporate identity. For more than 18 years, the team has planned and delivered signage, wayfinding, and donor recognition programs for a broad mix of public and private spaces. The studio places strong emphasis on the connection between signage and brand, using design to help organizations communicate clearly while improving how people navigate and experience places.
Role overview
This full-time position is for a designer with a strong focus on environmental graphics, signage, and wayfinding. The role calls for someone who can create engaging visual solutions that strengthen a client’s identity through environmental graphics, architectural elements, and wayfinding strategy. The work requires a solid foundation in graphic design, strong typographic judgement, and an understanding of how design operates within three-dimensional built environments.
Because the team values close collaboration, the role is intended to be carried out in person with the studio team. Remote work is only used when necessary. Compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications and will be paid on an hourly basis.
Responsibilities
- Partner with the Creative Director and design team to develop projects from early concepts through to final implementation.
- Handle design details independently, coordinate with architects and outside consultants, and serve as the main client contact on selected projects.
- Manage several projects at the same time while staying organized in a team-based setting.
- Present design ideas clearly, drawing on meaningful sources of inspiration.
- Prepare complete concept packages, construction drawing sets, and coordinate with fabricators throughout fabrication and installation.
- Contribute to sign location planning and message schedule development, which would be an asset.
- Work with the Creative Director to create and roll out design solutions.
- Produce final production artwork.
- Visit project sites before, during, and after construction to assess conditions and complete quality checks; this may involve walking large campuses and active construction areas.
- Keep multiple projects moving while balancing budget limits and deadlines.
- Reading floor plans is considered an advantage.
Requirements
- Post-secondary training in graphic design or another creative discipline.
- Excellent typographic ability and a strong eye for composition and clear communication.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in graphic design or environmental graphic design.
- Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Cloud, especially Illustrator, along with CAD Tools plug-in proficiency.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with SketchUp would be beneficial.
- A portfolio that demonstrates end-to-end project thinking and execution.
- Understanding of wayfinding principles and the environmental graphic design process.
