Job description
About the Role
We are a newly established Qatari-owned optical practice in Doha seeking an experienced dispensing optician to lead and elevate our dispensing services within a paediatric-centered environment. This senior role carries significant responsibilities including setting dispensing standards and protocols, conducting audits, and collaborating closely with referring ophthalmologists and optometrists.
Key Responsibilities
- Dispense prescription eyewear tailored for children from infancy to teenage years based on prescriptions from referring practitioners.
- Validate prescriptions and resolve queries with the prescribing professionals to ensure accuracy.
- Carry out precise measurements on paediatric patients such as monocular pupillary distance, vertical centration, vertex distance, and pantoscopic angle to ensure optimal lens fitting.
- Assist in selecting and fitting frames suitable for small faces and unique facial anatomies including low-bridge, special-needs, and infants.
- Dispense specialized and myopia control lenses accurately as prescribed.
- Verify all lab-finished eyewear against prescriptions before collection.
- Maintain liaison with laboratories to manage quality control and turnaround times.
- Communicate clinically and provide written reports to referring practitioners.
- Develop and maintain dispensing protocols, quality standards, and auditing procedures.
- Supervise and mentor the dispensing and supporting staff to maintain high service standards.
Qualifications and Experience
- Possession of a recognized dispensing optician qualification from an accredited institution.
- At least two years of experience following qualification.
- Eligibility for or holding a Qatar DHP (QCHP) dispensing optician license.
- Proven expertise in dispensing and fitting eyewear for young children.
- Experience handling complex prescriptions, including high-power, high-index, aphakic, and anisometropic lenses.
- Knowledge and experience dispensing myopia control lens designs.
- Background in paediatric or hospital dispensing environments.
- Fluency in English; Arabic language skills are preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
- Competitive all-inclusive, tax-free salary package.
- Health insurance coverage, annual return airfare, end-of-service gratuity, and more than three weeks of annual leave.
- Support for professional growth including funded certification and dedicated annual continuing professional development (CPD) budget.
- Access to cutting-edge dispensing and verification equipment, including digital centration technology.
- Full visa sponsorship and assistance with relocation.
- Unbiased performance metrics focused on technical accuracy, remake rates, fitting quality, and feedback from referrers rather than sales volume—no commission-based pressure.
- Additional incentives and benefits may be discussed during the interview process for outstanding candidates.
